I just got off the phone with Autowerks Motorsport in Madison heights, MI (as reccomended by Talisman) and made an appointment to have some work done to my gen 3.
The shop will be installing my exhaust- consisting of a Ripp Mods header, downpipe, and cat converter. They will also be running 2.25" pipe and hanging my magnaflow muffler.
They will also be installing my suspension, consisting of H&R springs, tokiico struts, kyb strut mounts and boots, and a whiteline rear sway bar.
The total cost they told me would be between $565 and $685 dollars. is this fair? They quoted $85 for the header, $65 to weld and flange the cat, and about $150 for the pipe and welds. They said this was all relative to them having to see the car (i.e. number of welds and bends)
For suspension they said between $200 and $300 for for the struts/springs/mounts/boots and 65-85 for the whiteline bar. How does this sound? I think its reasonable, but I want to make sure. I know from Talisman that this shop does good work.
Im pumped, cant wait to have this stuff put on . Should I just installl the swaybar this weekend with my cousin? that would save me about $100 bucks, those are easy to do arent they? let me know, thanks.
ok i just read the quotes they gave you....but for me, i'm not a guy thats good with prices/quotes because me and my dad worked on my suspension, but for the muffler, i went to a shop to get it done....i paid about 150 bux the installion and custom 2.25 piping..
in my opinion, the prices for the exhaust stuff seems okay to me, but for the suspension install ...if its 300 bux i think thats a bit too high... but yea, not sure
just think of it..... 200 or even 300 bux is already like half the cost of the suspension parts...
Exhaust stuff seems reasonable, and alot of people pay to get those things done, simply because they don't have the resources to do it, like welders, pipes, pipe benders and hoists. As for the suspension, i'd just do it urself. Its really not that hard and can be done with a standard jack. Get a few mates together and have a fun weekend doing it and learning it all. Its really quite facinating and simple. I took out and reinstalled all 4 struts in mine in 1 1/2 hours!

I have a hanes and id been studying for months but I simply dont have the tools or the friends to do it myself. I was going to do it with my best friend but things happened and we dont really talk anymore- meaning i dont have the help, the place, or the tools to do this anymore. Ive had the parts for almost seven months and im tired of it, i just want it installed. at some point you dont care about the money, you just want it done- and im at that point.
use the money you pay for the shop, buy the tools. That's what I do, and that's why I have most of the tool to work on my car now. Rather spend 300 on the suspension, use 300 to buy some good tool, impact wrench, socket.....

We did it with a good socket set, breaker bar, and a spring compressor. Get a torque wrench too. But yeah get it done soon.
You could always get some of the tools via AutoZone's Loan-A-Tool program. Put a deposit down, and get 100% of your deposit back when you return the tools.
I have did this for torque wrenches, spring compressor, and a steering wheel puller.
Yeah, i just figured that by the time I can find and make some friends, a place to do it, and the tools, summer will be over and I wont get to enjoy my car. Now that I have a job I really dont care about dishing the money out... I was super gun ho about learning to do the work my self but I just dont have the time, friends, or patience I thought I would have this summer.
Oh well, thats what happens when your best friend hooks up with the chick youre dating Atleast Ill know its done right from a reputable shop rather than half assed by me and my friends who dont have the right tools
is your friend dating the girl or just hooked up with her? how long were you and she together?
these are some factors to consider when deciding what to do about your friend...
friends are forever, bitches come and go...
if he plans on dating her, then he isnt that good of a friend... if he just hooked up with her once, maybe 1 or both were drunk? thats forgivable... you should tell your friend that he shouldnt do that shit to you, but if the girl was such a slut that she'd fool around with your best friend, she isnt worth the time you put into her just thinking about this... forgive your friend and get past it.
on the other hand, if your friend is a jerk, try to hook up with one of his ex's just for fun
in my case, my 2 best friends were fooling around with this girl... first 1 friend was, then he was talking her up cause she gives AMAZING head... so my other friend started fooling around with her... keep in mind, she is really busted. ugly looking face, but hot body and huge tits. so the second friend starts fooling around with her... the whole time, i was like, hell no, no way i will ever do anything with her, she is too gross. but then, we were all at a party and drunk and high too... we are chillin in the pool, me and 2 other friends and this girl. ya know how the pool tends to make people horny... well yeah, i just started feeling her up and it was done after that.... turned out she was amazing like they both had said. and after that another friend of mine and my brother too fooled around with her. long story short, she was like our little community hoe
although my story really has no relation to yours, other than they both have to do with friends, mine is entertaining so i figured i'd throw it in.
good luck with your situation, and good luck with the car. if you have the money, that price isnt too bad to do everything... if they are a shop that does good work, i'd spring for that much if the piping was going to come out nice.
i like to think of TN as more than just tech help. i was just giving him some advice on life, and everyone else a good story. sorry 88 for the off topic nature of the post.
