tranny fluid drain/refill

Hi all. Quick question.
Toyota recomends a transmission fluid drain and refill every 60 k miles. However, i have heard many times that transmission fluid is not safe to drain and refill because it may then the transmission itself may begin to act up and break. Is that true? Much like brake fluid, I think the tranny fluid is not to be drained and refilled often. Is that true? Thanks guys

you should change it every 30k miles. if you change the fluid and the trans dies soon after there was something more serious wrong. changing fluid should not kill a good tranny. check your fluid and take note of the odor and color. red fluid is what your looking for, and it shouldnt smell burnt either. brown or burnt smelling fluid should be changed.

That rumor applies to cars with 100k miles on the original fluid. If your car is fairly new then starting a fluid change habit is very healthy. I'd get the trans flushed at 30k and a filter change at 60k. Removing the pan and filter does not drain all the fluid, in fact only about half.

hmmm, well my camry is an I4 at 99.5 k miles on it. i've only had it for less than two months and i dunno how the previous owner took care of it...so yea, thats why i am so undecided about actually draining the fluid and refilling.

Drain and fill or have it flushed.

Have the differential drained and filled too.
