1Mz & 3vz con rods

Sorry if this has been asked before but are the 1mz-fe and 3vz-fe con rods compatable? Seen as the 3vz are more robust.

Cool

I'm not 100% sure. I would think definately not an exact swap.
I hate speculating, but the mz-fe cranks are thinner. Tony you've seen them, how they look? LoL!

I'm thinking it's like the differance between 1uz-fe parts, and 3uz-fe parts. The earlier version wound up being so much stronger hah!

Thanks Toysrme, I was thinking when you change the internals if you could use the stronger 3vz con rods.

Cool

I would just buy some rods you know are going to work. If you're getting new 3vz-fe rods from Toyota, I would almost bet some really good rods cost pretty much the same.

Thanks for asking man . The cars going great, I'm having some issues over the fueling. Prob is I'm still running with the mr2 n/a fuel pump. I now have a fse boost valve on and it's helped a lot but I'm sure the old fuel pump's under a lot of stress. I think when I get the first opotunity I will replace it with a supra fuel pump. i would also like to uprate the internals, but I'm not in a position to do so yet. I have a friend who is putting a 3 vz in to his mk1 mr2 and we are working on a home made supercharger. We aim to run this at 5 psi and early impressions are that this project is very do- able. It's too early to post on this yet but i will keep every one informed. I had the car weighed and it comes in @ 1200 kgs, with a 1/3 of a tank of petrol. Which in comparison to a weight reduced gen 2 tubby comes in @ a good 50 kgs lighter. Just shows the weight of the 1 mz engine. I'm looking also @ the smt 6/7. Problem on this side of the pond the camry is not a big sellig car and there's not the after market mods for them, even to buy a gasket set for them over here is a major task. Having said all this, it's a fantasic engine and the sound these things make, you just can't replicate this with a four pot

Take care

Phil.

look into the head gasket set from a newer 1mz... camry years 2002+ i think with vvti. they are MLS instead of shit.

your friends car will weigh a bunch more with that iron block 3vz though. its nice to know that the 1mz weighs in so low. ive heard it before that it is lighter than 3sgte but now i know for sure.

have you used the 3vz fuel rail setup for the return style on your 1mz or did you use an earlier 1mz with return style already? either way, the supra pump will be nice for you if you can pick one up.

what brand/type of s/c do you plan on using? ive thought about doing a s/c setup for 3vz before... it should be nice. i just like turbo better

Cool

If you can't buy aftermarket metal head gaskets, buy illegal asbestos head gaskets, and add a little torque to the bolts.

The 1mz-fe turbo would fit with the same machining it takes to get it on the 94-96 1mz-fe. I hope yall are using that.

I'd turbo before supercharge. Oh wait a second!

We are going to use the eaton m45 supercharger, it's the little brother of the m62 used in the trd supercharger.. It's rated for a 2.0- 3.0 l engines but as we are only looking for 5 psi it should do the job. I will document it's progress and post some pics up when it's done.

We went for supercharging it, maily for space. The 1mz fit into the 2's engine bay and the supercharger fits in there without any major surgery. I did not want to loose my trunk if I went do the turbo charging road.

Yeah put a 3vz fuel return on but I'm of the same opinion as you thet the fuel pumps gonna need uprating.

I don't know, those 2 engine bays are better than ours are. Someone stuffed a 3.4L 5vz-fe with twin turbos in an 2. You can't even stuff the 5vz-fe in the Camry engine bay without the pan hanging out of the bottom of the car!

Na that's cool. That's gonna be some hell of a quick car. I jsut wanted to make sure you weren't spending all that time on a vortec.
