3rd Generation Scariest noisefrom my car

I was turning unto my street that has a little dip at the intersection and heard a clunk. My wife noticed a loud grinding noise from the front passenger wheel as I started going straight. I pulled over a few yards later because it got me paranoid and tried to park with little turning of the wheel. Then all of a sudden we hear a noise like the sound of a spring popping out. That freaked me out but of course I wanted to see if that sound had an affect so I accelerated. The grinding noise was gone so I drove slowly to my garage and it's been there for 2 days.

So what do you guys think happened? I haven't had time to look at it because we're moving into our new home. I think it has something to do with my front right axle because my cv boot has been cracked for a while and my car has been clicking as I turn for about 8 months now.

Thanks in advance...

Installing a rebuilt right front axle (which includes the cv joint) should run around $180-$200. That is probably your problem if you have been driving it for 8 months with a torn cv joint boot and have been hearing clicking noises, especially on left turns. When the boot is torn, all the grease is thrown out away front the cv joint due to centrifical force and water gets in from driving in the rainy weather. This wears the large ball bearing that are inside the cv joint itself. I'm pretty sure this is your problem. It needs to be replaced either way. Sooner or later that cv joint is just going to come completely apart and it will be impossible to steer. Get it repaired now.

and while you are at it... get the other cv joint/boot replaced on your other side so you don't have this problem with the other one...
