3rd Generation Tutorial: Cig Lighter Removal and Install

I've had several ask me (since I've painted my "U" piece) and I've seen several ask in threads, but not get good answers, so I've taken the time and decided to help out with a DIY tutorial....

first remove the U piece, pretty basic, carefully use a flat head screw driver on the bottom to pry the bottom out first, then disconnect the cig harness... here's where everyone gets lost... it is sort of a puzzle but once you get it.. it's not that hard...

First off, the Black cover on the back just pops off...

Next locate 3 of the teal colored tabs on the inner piece, just use a small flat head to pry them inwards, be careful and take your time.. It's best to place the U face down, so you can press downwards on the inner piece...

Then locate two of the tabs on the white piece, again just gently press them inwards as you press down on the white piece

After that the remaining black piece will just fall out... and your done...

Now putting it back together is the tricky part....

First line up the black piece with the corresponding holes. There is a nipple on the black piece, line that up so it fits in the hole of the main U, while lining up the notch from the black piece to the notch in the U (match the colors)

Now just line up the notches of the black piece to the tabs of the white piece, the mechanism that holds the light will be towards the bottom of the U (match the colors)

Now for the keen eye... a lot of people get impatient and just cram the cig lighter in the remaining piece... DONT!! take a look at both the white piece and the lighter.. notice on the white piece there are two notches... one large and one small...

You will notice on the lighter there is one small tab and one large tab.. locate them in the U of the lighter indicated in green.. not red..

now line these up and firmly press in.. and that should cover you...

I hope this helps some of you out there.. sorry for any typos or anything, but it's late, im tired, and im jetting out the door for some pool! L8z

thats what everyone else said when i couldn't help them right away.. but this is for those, like me who want to paint the black piece for another lil detail to make it sweet.... i plan on taking it apart, again.. and painting it silver to match the ashtray, cup holder and cubby hole (as seen in Red Pheonix Syndrome)

Hey I got an annoying problem, and maybe u can help. My cig lighter SHOOTS OUT at an unbelievable speed after locking it in to heat up. So I wind up getting this HOT ASS bullet flying around my car while Im driving on the highway and I gotta look for it before it burns a hole in everything.

How can I keep the cig lighter from shooting out after I push it in?
