Stereo harness question! Seeking Stereo gurus!

Alright,

I just bought OEM in-dash 6 CD changer/tape player head unit off of 2000 Solara. My problem is that the plug that plugs into my OEM single CD/tape player head unit doesn't fit the new 6 CD changer head unit.

My OEM stereo requires 15 pins plug.... And the 6 CD changer unit requires
20 pins.
Does anybody know what's up with this?

I have JBL upgrade... Obviously that in-dash 6 CD changer also had JBL upgrade...

HELP!!

I'm not 100% sure if this pertains to your situation, but I just installed an aftermkt deck in my Gen4 the other day. I encountered a slight problem. There are actually 2 types of harnesses for our cars. One is for those that don't have factory amps and another ones for those that do. Well, I ended up getting the wrong one and had to visit an audio shop to get the correct harness (thanks Xenon  )
Worst case scenerio is you'd have to figure out what each wire does and splice them individually. I'm pretty confident that a harness exists and you won't have to go through that. Visit your local audio shop. Good luck.

BTW- the deck I installed was a 6 disc in-dash changer aswell 8)

The indash 6-disc changer that you bought is a preamp deck only and the matching harness had to be taken out of the Solara to feed the OEM amp, or a '00-up 4Runner and its amp, as the plugs are the same. If you don't have the matching harness for the indash 6-disc, don't even try to adapt the 15-pin harness to it. However, if you do have the harness, you can tap into the 15-pin once you find out what the color codes are. Just be forewarned that the preamp signals are all shielded, so if you don't make good connections, you WILL pick up noise. The wire splicing will only work if the 15-pin harness is from a preamp deck that feeds an OEM amp.

Thanks guys,
So from what Luc said, I should go find the harness that connects 6 CD changer and the OEM amp!! I should check out the junk yard...

Wouldn't Camrys with upgraded stereo have same wire harness?
Thanks

Yes, if you can, you need to find that matching harness that goes to the indash 6-disc changer. Any Gen4 or Solara with the OEM indash 6-disc changer as an option will have the harness. The regular premium/JBL 3-in-1 with single CD has a different harness, though the pin counts are the same.

For LiL cLueLeSS129, it seemed like the '02-up have adapted to the newer type harness (guess), so you were able to plug-and-play the indash 6-disc from an '01.
