3rd Generation [HELP] Problem on installing fog light

Hi guys,

I am planning to install a fog light to my Camry.
I have chosen the Ultra White Series fog light.
But the problem is....I don't want to use the switch and fuse that come from the package.
Instead, I want to wire my fog light to my headlight switch....or switch on the fog light when I ignite my Camry.

The fuse that comes with the fog light is 15A.
So, I have bought LittleFuse's Add-A-Circuit and want to plug that into my headlight fuse.
However, I just found out that the max Amp for the Add-A-Circuit is 10A. So, I cannot connect it to the headlight fuse which is 15A.

Question 1: Is there anything like LittleFuse's Add-A-Circuit which can support up to 15A?

Question 2: What fuse that is below 10A (I need two of them) will be used when my Camry is running and where are those fuses?

Thanks a lot.

Cheers,
Bowen

1. Do not tap into a existing fuse for power. Thats ghetto rigging and its not safe.

2. Get a inline fuse holder that'll hold a automotive blade type fuse.

3. Use a relay to power the foglights.

You want a SPST (single pole single throw) or SPDT (single pole double throw) relay. Doesn't matter which one you use. Make sure its for automotive use though.

http://www.nteinc.com/relay_web/R51.html

The relay with either have 4 (spst) or 5 (spdt) connections. The connections are numbered.

^ SPDT relay. Ignore the diode thats soldered on.

This is how you wire it up:

87: Constant +12V. Wire the fuse holder inline to this connection.

87a: Not used. Only exists on SPDT relay.

85: Ground

86: Parking light wire (green wire on one of the plugs going into the back of the gauge cluster). This acts as a trigger for the relay.

30: Output to foglights (+ wire).

The way that it works, is that when the parking lights or headlights are turned on the coil within the relay is energized.

In turn this connects 87 to 30 and the foglights receive power (+12V).

You could even wire a spst switch inline with the connection going to 86. This will allow you to turn the foglights on/off, instead of being on whenever the parking lights or headlights are on.

SPST (single pole single throw) switch:

To make the connections to the relay you can use female quick disconnects (crimp connector).

Hi there, thanks a lot for your suggestion.

I think I will switch to relay then. But I haven't worked with relay before.
Can I get those relay @ Walmart or CanadianTire?

best place for a good relay is a stereoshop...most will have something about what you need...if not try a canadian tire

So, for the inline fuse holder....where should i plug that it?
I don't want to draw the electricity directly from the battery....any suggestion?

you can connect the power lead to the battery for the fog lights...it won't use the "juice" unless the switched lead (for the relay) is powered up

personally I would do the battery...unless you REALLY want to splice into the driving light lead behind the fuse panel.....I would do the first personally

Canadian Tire should have them. If not try a car stereo shop, they'll have them for sure.

If you wire it up like I said above, it'll work fine.

Positive lead of the battery is the best place.

Or you can use the white or white/red wire on the bottom of the steering column. Both wires have a constant +12V.

P.S. Your foglights didn't come with a wiring harness with a pre-wired relay?

My foglights (Tenzo) came with a wiring harness with a pre-wired relay and inline fuse holder. And the switch plugs right into the wiring harness.

Wiring them up was easy. +12V, trigger (parking lights), and hook up the foglights to the wiring harness.

You have to splice into the driving light / parking light lead no matter what. This wire is used to trigger the relay.

However, I just don't want to use those.
