4th Generation Modifying automatic door unlock behavior

When I park the car and turn the key to "ACC", the doors automatically unlock. What I'd like to do is change this so that the doors remain locked until I actually remove the key.

This should be as easy as swapping some wires -- but where's the best place to do this? Is there a door lock module somewhere?

I have a 1997 Camry LE (V6).

isnt this tied into the security system. I remember my wifes Corolloa used to do that. But I can only rememeber that being the case on cars that had the VIP security system, from when I was working for Toyota. I may be wrong. I was surprised when I got my Sienna that it doesnt do it though, and it is XLE with pretty much everything.
I may be wrong anyone else got any ideas.

4th Generation

I have a 1997 Camry LE 4 Cylinder. My vehicle doesn't unlock the doors when I park the car and turn the key to "ACC". The only time my vehicle does unlock the doors is if I lock the doors, while the driver's door is open, with the key in the ignition then close the door w/o removing the key. I would agree with Cyorke, some cars might not do this if they are set up to unlock the door when being opened from the inside.

it has something to do with setting up the system/alarm. no cross wiring or removing wiring.

last time i did it, it was like open the door 5 times with the central locking- contineously within 5 seconds, etc

do some search on google or this forum. i have posted it before

If it has the factory security system, you can likely "unprogram" this.

My '97 LE locked every time you put it in drive, I hated it. Read in the security system manual how to reprogram. It was this wierd sequence of key on/off 5times, open?cose door five times and it chirped to let you know it was done...

LET ME KNOW if it has the factory security sytem and I will look in my security system manual tomorrow and see if I can help you out...

Yes, I believe my car does have the factory security system. The guy I bought the car from didn't have the remote though so I'll need to get a new one. And I most certainly don't have a security system manual!

So, I would appreciate any help you can give.

I actually like the fact that it locks when I start driving; I just wanted it to stay locked until I actually remove the key (not turn it to ACC, which currently unlocks the doors). I didn't know the security system was that customizable.

1) get a remote off eBay. It's 15$ or less for a shipped remote.
Here are the instructions to program the remote, dealers will charge u $40 to program it. It is for Gen4 but should be the same for gen3. If not, google search cos i found info to do it for gen3 also.
Link to program remote

It is customizable to program the RS3200 or RS3000 factory alarm but what you are asking might nnot be customizable (IMO). I know you can make your car not lock when you drive it or honk/not-honk when when your arm your car.

Thanks for the info. I've held off getting a new remote because I've been thinking of installing a higher-end alarm system. I think those usually come with their own.
