4th Generation A/C reduces engine speed drastically

Hello,

I have a 97 4cyl camry automatic. I ran the engine extremly hot to the point that I needed a new engine. I recently had a new engine installed and the car runs great. The only prob is anytime I turn the A/C on i lose a lot a power. Especially in 1st and 2nd gear. Do you guys have any ideas would could be causing this problem? Unfortunately the problem isn't prompting a check engine light. I had someone check the pressure on the fuel filter and fuel pump and was told that the pressure was ok.

A/C always robs power.. and fuel economy. It's normal.

Honestly.... what kind of question is this?

if its really alot, like more than what you would normally loose by turning on the AC, check the tension on the belt that runs the AC compressor, and check the pulley on the compressor and make sure it turns freely.

There's a A/C idle up switch which increases the idle speed by a few hundred RPM when the A/C is used. Check in neutral and idle, does it work?

I understand that the A/C reduces power and fuel efficeincy but not as drastic in my case. I've had the car for 3 years and this is the first time i've experienced this problem. I'm hoping this problem is outside of the recent engine install

I'll check the belt tension and the pulley as suggested. I'll also run the idle switch test in neutral. Thanks for your immediate response.

I'll keep you all posted.

It seems as though it is Idle-ing up a bit. I see the RPM move just a little. Could an EGR valve be the problem.

It is very clear that if you run an engine so hot, that you destroy it, that you would also not be able to notice any drag an A/C system has on an engine. Come on fella, read your own post and see if makes ANY sense!

In my clipse when the a/c is on you can really feel how it robs away the low end power. after the rpms jump about 2,500 then the car picks up and shoots off
