Question RE:when shifted into R

Ok when i shift into "R" there is some play where you can move the shifter about 1/8" forwards or backwards, and if you move it forward the "R" on the cluster lights up and the back reverse lights come on too, but if you move it that 1/8" backwards(towards rear of car), the lights go out both of them like their is a short somewhere, before I go messing with any of the electrical stuff, I wanna see if anyone has any suggestions or comments on what I should check to fix this, thanks in advance. Tomorrow I will probably open up the entire shifter area and see if its a problem in there.

BTW got my 3rd mod on my car today, red/clear tails from Eniffey.

from what it sounds like, you just might have it right between the R and N. remember you dont need to press the shifter button to shift from R to N.
Ive taken apart my shifter indicator plate, and the flourescent thing moves when the shifter is moved up or down, it just might not be moved down enough to match up to show in the space where N is.

see on mine, there isnt even an indicator? thats because the mark is between the P and R spaces, so they dont match up and show it. long story on how this happened.

hopefully that made some sense, but basically i think you should be fine.

Mine does that too. Except it lights back up when the car is warm. Maybe the connections needs to be cleaned.
