i just finished my custom cai. i will post pics later but i put the filter down and behind the bumper right behind one of the air openings. i am afraid water will get in so i need a bypass valve i think what do u guys think
unless you went through a flooded area.....i don't see a problem....
No rain won't affect it.

Puddles Might though. Hydro Lock isn't cheap to fix, i'd go with the bypass valve just for piece of mind. I saw a guy do $2500 worth of damage to his integra because of a puddle, and he got lucky if his car hadn't siezed up he would have needed to dig around for at least another grand according to the mechanic.

I've driven year round with my CAI and have had no problems with hydrolock or anything of the sort. In fact, I can reach up and touch my air-filter when it's raining and it's not even wet. To qualify my statement, my area has been flooded twice since I've had the CAI and I've not once been able to touch my air-filter and feel it wet. Granted, I don't live where we got the majority of the flood (higher ground), but this should let you know of the rain-fall we get.
jeez ppl if you need a DIY for a CAI you WONT be making one yourself.
if you need someone to tell you how to unfasten a few bolts and do other basic skills, you wont be up for it.

I have a K & N cone on my MR2 and it's real close to the side vent. I put a stainless steel shield on the side facing the vent and no problems-no restriction..($12.00 off Ebay)
