Ok you know the piece im talkin about and I know there has been other posts but I didnt see the info I need! I want to get rid of the camry lettering and mold the plastic piece to the metal, and it will be repainted! Ok whats the best way of doing this....covering it with bondo will just crack ....covering it with fiberglass will take some serious time! and lastly sanding it down, not sure but that seems to not be right? So if anyone has any info on how to do this properly please post!
PS: those are not tail lights in the middle of myn just a plastic piece...w/ backup lights!
You know what they say: If you want the job done right, pay someone. If you use Bondo it may crack over time. The best bet is to take it to a bodyshop, have the holes filled, and the trunk lid repainted.

Uh no thats not what they say if you want it done right do it yourself...I know I can do it right I know how to work with bondo and fiberglass and car body work....have you seen my Z3 fenders I didnt take those to a shop plus its outragous the price you pay for"getiing it done right!" at a shop I just want to know how people went about doing it! I have allready shaved the emblems and the antenna myself thats not hard back it with fiberglass and metal to metal bondo the holes thats simple! I want to mold that piece though and wanted to be sure on how people did it. Woulnd toy uthink that would be a waste of money getting a shop to do it when you know u have the skill jsut not sure how tyo approach it? Well anyway Ill figure it out if no one else has done it befor, thanks though. I am also in the process of taking the body side molding off, and a shop qouted me for 400 dollars to do that....uh I payed 50 for the can of metal to metal and for materials! Plus the major thing is you know how to do it then and you can say you did it and eveyrtime you see someone else that got it done somewhere yuo think darn they payed a lot and dont have the saticfaction of knowing that thats your work! :P
true dat aaron! i would imagine using a pro sander should do the job.. since the lettering is part of the plastic mold. ive thought about doing this. also i would actually want to make it flush with the trunk lid, so a couple layers of fiberglass and bondo should do the trick
there is nothing wrong with taking it to a shop, especially if its a matter of time sorta thing. i on the other hand who have time like to indulge myself in a good project every once in a while
guess how much the body shop quoted me to fit the vader bumper on my car?? no less than 1 grand!! how much did i do it for? 5 hours of using my own hands. wow now that is savings folks... and self satisfaction!
Do what I did. Get sheet metal and weld it on there. Then have the shop sand it down. That way, it's going to be smoothed down. Best way to do it, have a shop do it. Don't use fiber glass or bondo. Welding metal is the best way to do it.
How would you suggest doing it though Jon? Like sand it all down and then lay a level of fiberglass down to hold the two pieces and the bondoing the rest that is alot of sanding and plus that will make it stick out like crazy...and make the back up lights recessed in a little? What about just sanding it flush and using some fiberglass or jsut bondo at the seams? Can plastic be painted with the same paint as metal so i can get it all painted at once and no changes?
CAMRYPUNK? What did you do with the sheet metal you lay it over the plastic or replace it or what do u have photos? Why would u have a shop sand it....
jon did you keep your reinforcements in?
Did you have to do alot of cusotm work or was it quite straight forward...
Thanks
yes i had to remove my reinforcer. the work was totally custom, but it was great because i feel that i could now mold any bumper to the front of my car.
yukio, should i do that as well for shaving the emblems? or do you think fiberglass and bondo is enough to fill those small holes?

that is what i meant, but like camrypunk has said, its going to look much better if you use an already flat piece of sheet metal for covering the seam. i have not done this, and he has, so i would listen to him
yeah i think i could mold any front to myn but it would have to be from like an accord front right or any would work as long as its around the same width because I may want to go rally front look once i get the evo 6 hood scoop! By the way the scoop is ordered and im gonna back it with fiberglass too and bond top with metal to metal bondo.... then put a plexi glass sheild for the holes in the scoop for rainy days! no one will notice due to mesh but on sunny days my enigne is gonna be cool a lot of heat ventage out of those cut outs! Icant wait!
Sorry to stray from your original topic, but what all would it take to paint the center piece of my 92 Camry DX (black center piece) body color? The car is Silvermist Metallic, and I, believe it or not, WANT to keep the "C A M R Y" on the back. Sure, I like things clean shaven too (GAWD how I love clean shaven :P ), but the door handles, side molding, and antenna will all be shaven.
Also, I've seen Dupli-Color has "Import specific spray paint, guaranteed to color match." The trouble is, I can't find the paint itself ANYWHERE, and let alone paint for a 92 Silvermist Metallic Camry. Any ideas?
