My 1996 Camry has a mystery leak. I put the car up on the school lift and we found that it was coming from up above (Not from the oil pan) but when we brought the car down we couldn't find the leak. The head gasket looked ok, and we couldn't see anything really behind the engine (Where it was leaking from) Anyone know where this could be coming from? It is engine oil.
If it's an I4 (5SFE), there's an O-ring on the distributor, it goes and oil can leak from the valve cover past this O-ring.

I just replaced my 95 distributor, because an electronic component had failed.
You need to take off the air intake hose for clearance. Then pull the distributor cap, three screws with a 8mm socket.
Note the rotor position so when yoy reinstall it it will be the same.
Scribe the distributor case to head position so you can match it when you reinstall.
The distributer id held on with two bolts, 12mm socket, one is top left, the other is underneath it.
When you change the O-ring and reinstall the distributor, you might have to wiggle the rotor a little bit to get the key to the cam to engage.

did it solve the problem?
mine was the dist. ring and then the rear main seal.
Yeah, the rear main seal, that's something I don't look forward to. I'm at 500K km, what are my chances of continuing to be lucky

Not sure where it would be coming from since the evaporator and all is on the passenger side of the car and is actually below knee level. Maybe jsut a lot of condensation inthe vents or something like that.it is only duct work that runs over to the drivers side of the car for the AC and heat.

PLEASE DO NOT GET RID OF THE OLD TN AS WE KNOW IT.
I took my car down to our school shop (Our shop teacher is the coolest, he is there during the summer some times and will let me come in and check things) and it is definitely the o ring on the distributor, everything right under that area is extra oily. I will change it tonight. One Q though. When I take this thing off, after scoring the edge and engine for alignment, is a ton of oil going to spill out, or is it going to be just a little bit wet with the motor off?
Without the engine running the oil pump will not be pumping the oil. The oil will be down in the oil pan at the bottom of the engine a few minutes after you shut it off. You should have no problem.
