3rd Generation weird sound from engine bay?

i was driving the other day, nothing crazy, and all of a sudden i hear a weird noise. when the car shifts into 2nd from a stop, i hear almost a knocking noise. im still not sure if that is something in the car or not, but 9 out of 10, it sounds like it is coming from the engine bay. could this be a tranny problem? i only have 101K on the car but i know that the engine mounts are pretty much gone, been that way for a while.

Randy

Maybe the mounts are the source of the noise?
