hey...i have a 1991 camry 4 cyl and has about 21 k miles...it was sitting in the garage for about 13 years haha...anyways i need help on why I cant driver faster than 80 mph...if i floor it, it does not accelerate...my engine just roars really loud...80 is just too low...so far i did an oil change, transmission fluid change, coolant change...i dont know if this is normal but also...if i just step on the gas pedal maybe 25 percent of the way...its slow, if i step on it about 50 percent of the way...i can feel the accerlation kick in...and 90 percent it kicks in even more...100 percent it just roars...i actually have to floor it just in order to catch up with the flow of traffic on the feeway...lol damn slug box any suggestions? ive already use the search option but couldnt find enough information about my problems...i was thinking of getting a tune up but most mechanics now a days are lazy and takes advantage of you, so if you find a coupon for a 29.99 tune up...you pay what you get for because at the end youll probally spend more than 200 bucks...so diy is my option...
well, gen2's are hella slow, and do require a lot of flooring to keep up with traffic, and they have no passing power what so ever, but you should still beable to drive faster than 80mph, Are you really saying thats as fast as the car will go, like its max speed?
my camry pulls pretty well from about 45-75, but when you hit 80, there is a distint lack of acceleration, and it does take a bit to get it to higher speeds, but ive always been able to reach them, and the car maintains those speeds pretty well too.

yea i meant the max speed...it only goes up to 80...once it hits about 75 or 80...it stops accelerating...all it does is maintains the speed when i floor it...and when i do floor it, my engine gets really loud...its prolly my intake anyways...
lol i wish i could do an engine swap...but my car only hs 21 thousand miles...i still gots a long way to go...and im proly going to turbo my 3sfe for the heck of it...and if i blow my engine, that will give me a reason for swaping in a 3sgte...it jsut takes time and money for that matter...for now im worried about my top speed...
one more question...on a normal warm day...my tach needle bounce up and down when i accelerate...but in the morning if i accelerate, its normal and moves up stiff and fine...lol
please, swapping a V6 into the gen2 would be a complete waste of time.
Back on topic: Youve got some issues, i cant imagine what would keep the car from going past 80mph, except a governer, and the car shouldnt hit that till about 110. You should find yourself a mechanic, there are good ones out there, and take it to them and see if they can figure it out. with 21k miles, you shouldnt be having any system faliures, but you never know. Check the ignition system, plugs, wires, cap, that sort of stuff, and check the fuel system.

lol wow...and the 3sfe is rated at 115...but i heard a 5sfe can beat a 2vzfe...anyways, i am going n/a for now until i finish my suspension and brake upgrade...and a custom 2.25 inch piping with a 14 inch magnaflow resonator and a dual tip muffler...after all that is done...*drools* my long awaited custom turbo setup boosting at 5 psi... hell since my car has only 21 k miles...ill prolly gt for the 7lbs...

You may want to consider making the engine run properly before you do any 'performance' upgrades to it.
If the car otherwise runs smooth, I would take a wild guess at this loss of power and can only think of 2 things. First are gummed up injectors from gas sitting in there so long and then forced into the injectors when the car was first restarted. Gas sitting in a tank longer than 6-8 months can turn in to a varnish-like substance. If it was sitting in there for 13 years, I don't even want to think about what it was like. The 2nd thing is a clogged cat convertor for the same reason. Try a couple of bottles of fuel injection cleaner in the next couple of tanks of gas. That should take care of the injectors. Chevron with Techron is highly recommended, although a bit pricey. As far as the convertor, you could try unbolting it and taking the car for a ride to see if it runs better. Being in California, you will probably have to try this yourself; no shop will do it for you.
Your timing is off. Loosen the bolts holding your distributor to the head and slowly pry the distributor up with a flat head screw driver. Sorry I don't have pics to explain this further. If you aren't mechanically inclined I'd suggest you take it to a shop and have them advance the timing for you. It's not going to be much since it's right there on top of the engine. They can even do it while the car is running if they want.*

I've taken my Gen2 beyond that. The accuracy of the speedo may be questionable though.
