Well my 3S-FTE is dead. The motor is old, wornout, and tired.
I've thought about rebuilding the block, but I don't know what condition its in until I yank it out and tear it apart. I don't feel like messing with it.
I can get a JDM 3S-FE from Attarco (Japanese engine importer in town), but I rather have a 3S-GTE.
Now for the questions. I know that a 3S-GTE will bolt up to a gen 2 using the mounts on a 3S-FE. Correct me if i'm wrong.
What about the tranny? Do I need custom mounts if I use the MR2 Turbo tranny or can I reuse the one thats on my 3S-FE?
You said something about rewiring the harness? What needs to be rewired?
Do I need anything else besides the engine, tranny, wiring harness, and ECU? Axles?

Yes it should I dont see why not because the Celica has the same mounting points ...

I would suggest using/getting the MR2 bracket or the Celica All Track mount... You can use the 3S-GTE trans if you can source out the old 3S-GE celica trans. And rework the tranny housing...

The dash has to be rewired... And the pin outs needs to be reworked. And there are some 3S-GTE electronics that needs to be add on to the wiring harness that isnt there on the 5S-FE/3S-FE...

try getting the MR2 fuel pump, the whole ignition system, Celica All Track engine mounts, the MAF, the map sensor, and the fuxes box...
hopes this helps... I'll write some more info, once I'm home I'll look up my old paper work...

Awesome.

So in other words a 3S-GTE trans will not bolt right up into a gen 2? It needs to be modified.
So I can use the tranny from a 3S-GTE, but the housing needs to swapped out with one from a 3S-GE and reworked? Correct me if i'm wrong.
I thought a engine and tranny from a MR2 Turbo will just bolt right up to a gen 2. Well the engine does, but not the tranny according to what you said.

Oh man. Its gunna be a nightmare rewiring all that stuff.

Cool.
Thanks for all the info and i'm sorry to pick your brain, but you know hella sh*t about 3S-GTE's so I thought i'd ask you.

sorry for the delaid answer... You can use the MR2 Turbo trans but the shift linkage is facing the wrong way ... You can remedy this by use a older 3S-GE tranny housing, so the shift linkage will be facing the right way... then you can use the Celica All Trac shift linkage...

I get what your saying now.
Now i'm gunna see if I can find all the parts.
Attarco has the engine and tranny for about $1200 - $1300. To bad they don't import clips though (i've asked).

I might have a connection for you... If you'd like a newer 3S-GTE...
Well, I could be wrong... I dont really know the specs. of the Caldina motor... I just know that its direct fire( one coil per cylinder), map sensored, air-to-liquiud intercooler, has a CT20B turbo, and a different head design(i.e. ports and runners are different)...
if you are serious about this swap, you will be money ahead to get a complete MR2 clip. There are a lot of bits and pieces neede that you do not think of untill you need them..... you need a complete wiring harness, AFM, intake piping, coil and iginitor,ECM, axles, etc. A good 2nd gen clip will cost you about $3,000. If you are located in California, you should be able to find a clip within easy driving distance. If you need one in the midwest, I have some in Chicago. You will be able to bolt the 3sgte to the stock Camry tranny. Fine for all but the most crazy power levels...... If the car currently has a 3sfe, you can use most of the mounts. The wiring harness will have to be fabricated from the MR2 harness and your stock harness.
