Turbo install question

I have the turbo installed and the intercooler pieps set, oil feed and drain, etc done. But, where do I draw water from and return to to cool the thing?

Does anyone have pics? I don't know which pipe is which?

Water to cool the turbo? I thought it was cooled through the oil... I could be wrong though.

the ct26 and a few other turbos are water-cooled, and oil cooled. PM Meisner, he should be able to give you specific locations where he did it on his setup.

nice! ok look around your throttle body, there is a coolant line running around there i believe, just tap into that (you should know how if you can engineer a turbo setup =P

are you talking about the box (ex .pro cooler (on vortech systems)) that cools the air even more before it enters the intake?

I don't have the ct26. I have a water cooled turbo.
Oil is lubrication only. I can run without water cooling into it, but it will last years longer when cooled.

You know where would be a good place to tap into it and return it...the oil cooler.

you may have to run a separate resouvir (sp) for the water and then run it through a cooler of some sort most likely a rad placed above your intercooler

Best of Luck

The coolant lines at the throttlebody would be your best bet. Try to have the coolant flow through the sensor before reaching the turbo. Most of the time the heat from the turbo will cause wrong temperature readings and causing the car to idle funky at times.

Water cooled turbo is the best... You don't necessarily need a turbo timer anymore with a water cooled turbo

I'll take a look. I was thinking about the two coolant lines that feed to the oil filter. (Those are coolant lines aren't they?)

Cool

I've never looked at an i4, buton the v6's the oil cooler is a little round block attached by the oil filter. I'm guessing that's what you're talking about. I wouldn't get the coolant from there. I would get the water from the throttlebody. Normaly one is coolant to the throttlebody, and the return runs through the EGR pipe to help cool it.

Come to think about it, that's exactly what I'm doing too!

You won't need to cool the retuning water from the throttlebody. If it's like the v6's it's on it's way to the radiator anyways. Besides... It's use to trying to cool the EGR pipe. I would imagine that's almost as hot as the turbo could possibly get it anyways.

Just instead of cooling hot egr all the time, it'll be cooling slightly hotter turbo water, much less often. Anyways, that's how I look at it.

Water cooled turbo's are the shit. Thank god for the 80's OEM's for wanting to come up with it!

This is the source of coolant for my turbo. Those two lines feed your oil cooler beneath your oil filter. I have the Burien Toyota Kit and this is where they pull coolant from as well.
