Stereo Activation Key Required??? (replace battery)

I have a 2000 Toyota Camry XLE V6. I believe the JBL stereo system is the one that came with the car (6-cd in-dash changer, AM/FM/Tape player).

I need to disconnect my battery to replace the battery and an O2 sensor.

Question:
-Do I need some kind of activation key to get my stereo working again after I disconnect/reconnect the battery?

I called the original dealer's service department and they said that they THINK I do not need one as long as my stereo doesn't show a red flashing light or anything like that on it....But their lack of confidence in their answer concerned me.

I called 800-Go-Toyota and they said ALL camry's ALWAYS need to be brought to the dealer to re-activate the stereo....

Does anyone have a definitive answer or a tip on where I can find what I need, or someone else to call, etc....? Haynes manual states nothing about it at all...

JBL's website says to ask the dealer.....

^^damn your fast

check your manual it will answer all your questions and some.....it will tell you how to set up your code and how to input it when needed....if you bought your car used chances are the person who had it before already set up a code....in my case the person wrote the code in the book so i ok

Nothing is in the manual about a code. It just talks about how to use the stereo, that's all.

Can anyone who owns a 2000 V6 Camry XLE confirm whether or not the basic system requires one?

In case this helps, by the way, here's the number on the actual stereo:

the dealership said it right, is there is key shaped thingie on your hu, look for it beside the tape side and above the radio controls, if so you need the KEY, if not then you don't!

as far as i know, there would be a red light or red key blinking whenever you turn off your engine. This is like an internal alarm for the radio. If it is removed without the code, only the dealer can reset it.

1) did u buy the car new?
if Yes, go to No 2.
if NO, go to No. 3

2) Did you set up the alarm/security code for the radio? Based on your questions, I assume that it is NO.

3) Turn off engine. Remove key. Do you see a red light or red key blinking on the radio. No, that means that ur security feature on the radio was not activated.

As far as I know, the manual will tell you about the radio security setup. I read the manual over and over again for gen3 and gen4.

Paranoid, just go ask the toyota dealer. They will tell you for sure and it will be FREE
