I did a search on this topic and didn't really get an conclusive answers. We've got a 2000 Camry XLE V6 that is coming up for tire replacement soon. It's got factory 16 inch alloys. I believe they're 16x6.5 The OE tires are 205/60/16. I was considering putting 225/55/16s as a replacement.
The question is any done this before and can it be done. The stock rolling diamater is maintained but the am I going to have an rubbing issues with the suspension and steering components with wider tires up front?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Whoa...its been awhile since I logged on Oct 2002 .
Just curious, why do you want such a wide tire for your parent's car? If this is just for daily driving, I'd go with 215/55/16 instead. You won't ride the groves in the road as much, and you'll get better mileage. However with the 215/55 tire, the profile will be smaller, so the ride may be a tad more rough.

the 215/55 size makes the speedo off by 1.8% but the 225/55 size the has a lower error something like 0.5% or something like that...
I have the privilege of taking care of all car maint stuff..so I guess need to find new tires. Though going a little wider would help the cornering ability. That's all. The car is gonna stay pretty much stock unless I fork over the cash for a TRD blower.
HEy are you on TAC? for some reason...I've seen the cars in you sig before

I put 215/55/16's on my 2000 Camry and they rub in the rear. I had to use 3mm spacers. Your 225's will definetely rub in the rear. You asked specifically about the front. I took a quick measurement and it appears the 225 would not rub in the front. I agree with the comments Silver Streak made. I found my ride to be much rougher just with the 215/55/16's. I notice I also ride the grooves in the road. In fact, when these wear our I am going back to 205/60/16's.

225 will rub the back.
i have 215 and I have to put 5/16" spacers at the back. front is OK.
okay thanks for the input everyone....I thought there would be rubbing issues in the front but not back....but I guess toyota did a good job stuff the widest possible 16 in the rear....I don't think I'll mess with it...I'll just use the stock size
