What to look for in a lug nut

Im looking for new lug nuts. The OEM ones are way too wide for my rims to take off and on. Very unsafe because they are not the tightest . So im looking around. Checked out ebay and a few places. What should I look for in a lug nut? I have no idea. There are so many sizes. Infact, which size lugnut should I look for? Any help would be great. thanks.
