Exclamation 500 degree Clear Paint - Warning!!

In short, I wouldnt advise you use this!!! A while back you might have seen my newly painted valve cover

from:

To:

now between the silver and the blue, I used the 500 degree clear... mainly to protect the silver when I was going to tape it off..... side note, the silver was close to a chrome, like my heat shield, but as you add clear, it dulled it to the "grey" you see in the picture....

A week later, the clear started to turn to yellow, now it's embarassing to even show... So if you value a piece, and dont want to rip it out to redo it (unless you're going for yeloow....or sumtn) Dont Use Clear!

In conclusion... I grabbed my valve cover that came out of my car (yes I was lucky enough to have 2), and poilished it... first I removed the 3 bars (that are painted blue in the pic) with a grinder, then smoothed everything down with a my other die grinder, but that left ugly swirls... so I started with 220 grit to rid of the swirls, then 400, 800, and wet sand with 1000, used a rouge compound and a buffing wheel, and topped it off with some polish... came out pretty good... pics suck, but the final product is nice... whatcha think?

Cool

Ya most clear spray on's suck. A lot of them will dissolve paint as they dry too!
Did you bake it on?

Still looks good. btw

what brand did u use b/c about 2 months ago i painted my gen 3 "v-bank" cover (on the 1mz-fe its that black cover on the engine), anyways, i used du-pont engine enamel rated at like 500 degrees and i used the engine enamel primer, then silver, then clear and it still looks the same...

maybe its because on the actual engine while mine gets hot (but not instant burn like on headers or whatnot) and the cover is plastic...

yeah i used the same... but mine isn't plastic, all metal... I didn't exactly BAKE it on... I applied the clear and blue while at work, it was about 98 and i did it on the hot pavement, in the direct sunlight - good day, No clouds, put it in the car, and drove it for a while....

most clears do frustrate me... there is only one clear that has NEVER given me probs and the final outcome of it is amazing...

yea, it's prolly cuz i've only used the engine paint for plastic pieces in the bay (fuse boxes, etc.) but i guess i'll try (maybe u should too) the enamel that is rated 1200 degrees
