I have some questions about a 1993 camry xle v6.... Story: We're coming back from a trip. I'm sound asleep in the passengers side when my mother wakes me up and says shes losing power in the car. Smokes coming out of the hood, she says she heard a pop noise... and now we're drifting to the side of the road.
Open up the hood, coolant everywhere. Upper radiator hose has exploded. Phone family, much time passes sitting, they show up with new hose and water.
But the engine wont turn over now(starter works).
Questions:
Do these cars have any kind of failsafe mode that needs to be reset? If so, how would you do that?
I have no clue as to how long or hard she was driving while the car was overheating, shes oblivious to such things Assuming she was driving in the red for an extended period of time, what kind of damage can we be expecting?
All i kno off the top of my head is its very very difficult to make our v-6s overheat like that because of our big radiator, next time make sure u have enough radiator fluid . I kno of know 'failsafe'. Look for leaks i.e. blown gaskets, head gaskets imparticular if ther was that much heat and pressure. couldnt tell ya n e thing else off the top of my head, its too early in the morning
You may have gotten the distributor wet, causing the rotor insdie to get wet, which would not allow you to start the car. I would take the cap off to see if everything in there is dry.

If your radiator hose explodes, how much radiator fluid you have makes no difference. I've been in a car where the fluid was up to the full line, but the hose burst open, and the heat shot up.

I agree. I think you should check your distributor. Thats what it sounds like to me..

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.

Does the motor turn, do you mean it cranks but won't start?

u misunderstood, if u dont have enough fluid it will cause extensive overheating which will result in ultra high pressures throughout the system, in turn, if the pressure finds a weak spot...boom
You can buy used JDM ones, or used US ones for less than $1000 all day, and it's not going to be $1000 worth of labor to swap them.
Go to a different mechanic.
