Hi,
I'm mechanically minded but suspension is not my strongpoint. With this in mind, I was getting a bit of knocking in the front left hand side of my 93 Camry (about 12 months ago) when driving on an uneven surface, so I took the car to the local mechanic who told me it was the struts, replaced them a few days later, and then surgically extracted $700AUD from my wallet.
Several months later the knocking returned and has stayed, tho perhaps not as often or as obvious as before. Nevertheless I'm unimpressed as I paid good money and now I want to sell it and not have knocking problems during a test drive turning potential buyers off.
I've had a look at both sides and noticed a rubber "ring" at the base of the coil on the RHS under the "strut plate", but there is no corresponding part on the LHS. Toyota can't identify it in their parts list, so I've drawn a blank there. All they can identify is the insulator rubber that sits on top of the strut plate.
If anyone is familiar with what it should look like under there, I'd appreciate if they could look at the pics in this link
http://www.digitalgreen.com.au/webpics/camrystruts.htm and tell me if something is missing, and what the description or even part number is for it?
Incidentally, another issue is that under braking when going down a steep hill, I get a very pronounced knocking in the suspension (on the left hand side again) when braking lightly to moderately, but not so when braking heavily. Could this be related I wonder?
Any help much appreciated!
