Cool Aux oil port, 3vz-fe.

Yep. There's good news and bad news!

The good news is that the 3vz-fe has inherited auxiliary oil port<s> from the 3vz-E truck engine! Making it simple to hook up things requiring oil. Turbo's, some supercharger, oil pressure sensor/sender, oil temperature.

Unfortunately the useful AUX is completely hidden behind the engine mount!!!

After looking for a half hour with my front manifold, oil filter, and alternator out trying to find a good aux oil port it dawned on me... Anyone with a 3vz-fe that has changed their oil filter knows ours is on a stand-off so that the fluid transmission mount (made by KYB btw ) hydraulic lines, and engine mount dont interfere with it!

One major difference between the 3VZ blocks is that the Camry is transversely mounted. That means sideways, and tilted backwards at an angle. The 3vz-E's oil filter bolts directly to the block. See:

The 3vz-fe filter doesn't bolt directly to the block.
Toyota simply made an oil-filter relocation thing, and put it on stock for the 3vz-fe's tog et around all the mounts and crap.

Duh... Replace one of the two caps with a barbed fitting LoL!

I am so stupid LoL!

*edit*
People didn't exactly get what I was talking about, so I'm trying again.

Ive had bad experiences with barbed oil fittings. Your oil lines are not something to be cheap about, just a suggestion, go with some high pressure fittings (AN or your aeroquip push on) But thats just my humble opinion. Nice to see you playing with the 3vz man, I need to get mine running, Im having withdrawals

Cool

I've got good clamps don't worry.
Depending on how tight I can get it, I may braze another / a larger barb on it just to make sure.

For the record, I do believe those caps are BPT.

3/8" NPT will thread into it. It's tight to put in because it doesn't fit. The brass will thread in far enough to hold it, and the threads crush, sealing it. If you keep going, you'll strip the brass and your SOL. I suggest some RTV type sealant on the treads to be safe.

I never like barbs either... I have installed and maintained quite a few turbo setups (my own setups as well as my buddies), and the are generally not so good for extreme environments like the engine bay of a turbocharged engine.

I am not sure what clamps you are using, although nice clamps do help. Regular worm gear hose clamps like to back off due to vibration and expansion/contraction from temperature changes. Also, a lot of times the hose itself like to swell or harden and the clamp loses grip due to temperature changes as well.

I get my fittings through a hydraulics wholesaler. The price for an -AN style fitting or SAE flare is almost the same as a regular barb fitting + decent hose clamp at a local shop. That's why I always go with the better stuff.

I also have a set of NPT taps and dies, ranging from 1/8" to 3/4". It helps when those shitty BSPT threads get in the way, so I just re-tap them to NPT. Never force threads because although they might appear to work, all it takes is a couple of heat cycles to form a crack and then break in half. Not fun at all. Also, I never use silicon on pipe threads because when you install pipe threads, teflon tape or thread sealant acts as a lubricant so it won't mess up the threads. Regular silicon will not prevent the threads from seizing so I don't use them.

Just a few tips here and there from my engineering classes (hydraulics).

Cool

I have SAE, metric and NPT taps too. I'm just way to lazy to use them 90% of the time. Small T-bar clamps. I didn't try to save money on 100% of the project hahahaha.

Trust me, they siezed. 3/8" crushesh in bpt very quickly. There is another good 1/16-1/8" worth of threads if anyone feels like getting the correct fitting and putting it all the way in.
Thanks for the tips tho!

How'd you fix your cross over pipe? Would a 3vz-fe's metal pipe fit?

Same thing works on the EGR port in the rear manifold. It's a funky sized JIC fitting, but you can get a common 5/8" brass plumbing camp and crush it on. Mine's been on about... 6 months. (Not that this car has been daily driveable for 3 of the last 6 months )

Wish I would have thought about re-tapping it before I ruined the fitting. If it winds up being a problem, I'll remember to tap it next time.
