For months I have always had a headache (think motion sickness) when I'm in the middle of any long ride (15+ mins) in my dad's 97 Camry - and when he is driving. I thought it was the suspension so I did a push-down test - pushing hard on the corners - and it didn't bounce, but there are significant travel.
To be fair to the car my dad drives with a lead foot - usually resting on brakes but hard on both - and under his command the car lurches when coming to a stop - sometimes when I am behind the wheel too.
How do I tell if it is the suspension dying, or is it my dad's driving habits? I think it is still on its original, stock struts.
To match the tone around here - if it's the suspension I'm going to push for some sweet shocks & springs while dropping it for 1".
Yeah, that's what I've heard. A related question though--if I am only replacing my struts for now, what should I get? KYB? I want something that's a little better performing than the stock struts, but comfortable as well. Later I'm probably going to put some eibach pro-kit springs on there, but I can't afford it right now, and struts ought to come first.

Many people like tockiko struts. Which offers a pretty sporty ride with good handling. I'm just not sure about the ride.
I just thought of it. Check Camry FAQ, It talks about all of the springs and struts,
Probably mentioned before but i want to have this clarified for me before i decide to save money for it:
if i keep stock struts and put lowering springs on mine, the struts will die.
if i keep stock springs and put in struts, suspensions components will be affected significantly.
Is that true?
I know I won't be able to pay for both immediately so I need to know which I should do first so that it won't hurt my car. I'm still in high school and not financially independent, haha.
So yea, all if any input is great. thanks!
p.s. in response to the actual topic, if you feel the car bounce more than usual or if you feel that one corner may be leaning, that's a dead giveaway that suspension is dying.
