I've got a 92 Camry 2.2. with A/T. I just bought it and I think the idle is set way to low, to where it won't idle but dies. I can push on the excellerator and bring the idle up to 1100-1200 RPMs
and she runs fine. Where is the adjustment. I've got the Haynes manual but I can't seem to find it anywhere. I'm not to impressed with Haynes. as I've found outright blunders in their manual. Is there a better manual out there or do I need to bite the bullet and buy the Toyota factory manual?
Tomorrow I will check all of the vacuum lines for cracks or breaks as well, but I'm pretty sure they are OK. New distributor cap, plugs, rotor and wires.
I need to know the location of what to tweek to adjust the idle RPM up, HELP HELP
yea me too cuase sometimes when im waiting to long in the car and im playing my music, my music turns off becuase to low of volts cuase the rpm's are to low and the battery isnt charging, i would like it if it was higher, can u even make it higher at idle?
You can turn up the idle all you want with a screw on the throttle body, but it wont make any difference. The idle is controlled by the ECU, and you can bump it up with the screw, but the ECU will compensate and lower it back down.

Where is the screw? I have a 95 camry AT and all I could find was a threaded bolt with no head which had a nut on it and it was right near the "butterfly" piece that moves when you apply gas. So I turned the nut on the bolt so that the bolt moved in a direction that was pushing on the "butterly" piece and therefore continually adding gas even before I step on the gas pedal.
This didn't seem like the proper way to do it tho.. is there another way... I couldn't locate a screw? WHERE IS IT?!?! lol
if you have a gen 3 camry go to the sticky at the top of the camry forum and get the repair manual i4 (5sfe) is called eg1 and v6 (1mzfe) is eg2

since its the factory service manual it is
THE source for troubleshooting and repairing info
I have that, but looked through it thoroughly and couldn't find where the screw was. There wasn't a whole lot on the idle period. Can someone who knows where the screw is just descibe where on the throttle body it is... front, back, underside? What color, phillips or flat.... etc
Unless someone has turned your idle down you should not have to adjust it! If your idle is low I would look for an underlyng problem. Egr valve or VSV would be starters.

He's right. The same happened to my 92 4cyl and I messed with the screw. I then got smart and took it to a shop that I can actually trust and they recalibrated the TPS and it runs fine now.
Don't forget the infamous Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. Cleaning the whole throttle body is never a bad idea either, I'm just to lazy...
This was the fix for my car!
The screw is more like a stopper for the throttle plate. There is no adjustment to the idle, except what the ECU does. This screw keeps it from going back too far and that's it.
My TB looked clean when I removed the air hose, but on the BACK side, it was nasty, not to mention the insides of the intake manifold. I should probably replace the IAC, but this car cost $1200 bucks, and I literally pulled it out of the woods at an old lady's house. The engine had to come out for the rear main seal and some other repairs, and at this point, I'm done spending money on the camry, I need to put some parts on the XRS!
It's really easy to clean the TB and all you will need is a $2.00 gasket, and a can of TB cleaner.
