Exhaust piping diameter is VERY important. The LARGER the pipe.. (from stok) and the less restrictive, the LESS low end you will have and the more top end you will have. There is a LOT to flow dynamics in an exhaust system. Basically, the larger the diameter, and the lower the rpm, the quicker the exhaust will loose heat and flow. The larger diameter helps in the mid to upper RPM range. The stock piping is most likly the best for low to mid power with the stock engine. If you keep stock diameter, and make the system less restrictive, then you will gain good midrange.. a tad on the bottom and a fair amount on the top end.
Only if you port, polish and for forced induction, then you will reap more from the low end with larger piping. My suggestion, leave it alone, and remove the resonator, if you have a stock power plant. Stock = no porting, polishing, oversized valves, cams, turbo, S/C.. etc..
