2nd Generation 3sfe stock header?

Is my stock header cast iron. I took off the head shield and it looks like it has some bulk to it. So i'm just wondering if they're cast iron or not. I have a friend who saw it and can cut it to make a turbo manifold for me. I plan to pick up another one from the local junkyard and have him make a manifold out of it but I want to make sure that it's cast iron first. yes I know that I can use an MR2 manifold. But since I can't find one right now I've decided that this is a viable option. Not to mention if it's cheap maybe I can get a few extra made. I will have a wastegate flange welded on along cylinder number one's runner. I'm going with a t3 flange if I do get this done, makes it easier to slap bigger turbo combinations on if I ever build the engine.

Anyway back to the original question. Is the stock 3sfe header cast iron?

Anthony.

if you have time gasket match the ports, and then some. i.e make the exhaust header port a fraction larger then that of the head exhaust port.

other wise good luck and keep us posted.

Cheers

Thanks for the quick responses. I was planning on porting it anyway. I figured to flow must probably suck since after all it's a stock piece and was never meant to make power. But when you think about it. Alot of log manifolds don't have the best flow characteristics either, and it's proven that you can make power with them. Even though the manifolds are stock they do look like they were tuned. You can actually distinguish between the runners on it. Anyway. I should be getting it done soon so I'll try to have pics up.

Right now I'm pretty much set on doing this 3sfe manifold conversion. But unfortunately/fortunately I'm investing my money in some real estate so after I go through that I'll be getting the manifold made up. I'm already getting all the little pieces I need. Oil fittings for the head,, oil lines, turbo timer, boost controller, intercooler, E-manage (that's right I'm running a piggyback that's worth as much as my car lol), so on so forth. I'm going to be running a small t3 that we have laying around the shop tuned for 6psi. Hopefully with 123k on the engine it should hold up. by the time I get this on my engine may be close to 130k though. right now the only thing holding me back is getting the manifold made and that is because I have to get my money tied up in real estate first.

I've now set a goal of finding the limits of this 3sfe engine. That's right I'm sticking it out with my horrible flowing head.
