open vs closed tuner lug...??

hello,
I dun get which one i should use. Is it just a matter of preference or are there some rims that HAVE TO USE open tuner lugs? But i see some stuff about rusting using open lugs, or maybe it's just advertisement.

I got the small diameter tuner lugs on my car but the problem with the small closed lugs is that my key for the lug nuts chipped my paint on the rim.

I had closed and then switched to open and my studs began rusting. So I hit them with a wire wheel and shined them up. Then painted flat black and threaded lugs back on. They havent rusted since.
