Gen5 Drl And Highbeams Dont Work

My 02 camry is having a problem, when ever i turn on my headlights. the navigation system darkins badly. Also the dash clock and it seems the headlights sucking up too much power. Any reasons. I already checked fuses but nothing.

it's not that.
it's the DIMMER

on the dashboard, there should be a dimmer knob.
turn it the other way.

I am not sure where it is located on gen5 camry but for gen4 camry, it would be next to the power window controls.

Problem solved!

LOL no man its not that, the navigation system screen gets really dark and the screen has nothing to do with the dimmer knob. THanks though any other suggestions?

When you turn your headlights on, the car will assume it's dark outside. And when it's dark, your clock, nav, etc... don't need to be as bright for you to see them just as easily. If they're too dark to see, even at night, THEN you have a problem... but if not, it's perfectly normal. If they didn't do that, you'd probably be complaining about them being too bright at night. Easiest way around this, don't turn your lights on during the day.

As far as I know, when my headlights are on, the radio, CD, clock, etc will become dimmer.

yeah somethign is wrong with me cuz it doesn't look any different.

No one can tell the difference. You have to take a pic of the navi with the lights off and the navi with the lights on. THEN we'll see the difference. Showing us a day time pic of the navi and then a night time pic of the navi is the WORST comparison you can do.

Do what i suggested and then we might be able to see a difference.

ok in the daylight picture, did you have the headlights turned on? I think I have to agree with what everyone else is saying though. When you turn the headlights on all of the interior dash, A/C, and radio lights dim. If you are running your headlights during the day then the lights on the inside are dimming and therefore will not be bright enough to see, because the ambient light is going to drown them out. IF you really think there is a problem have the battery and alternator checked. I ahve one other question how long has it been doing this? DId it jsut start or has it been doing this since you got the car, which would be how long if tht is the case? Ohyeah and one more thing are you doing takeing pictures of your navi while driving, dont you know taht isnt safe. Seriously though the pics are sorta blurry, why dont you try taking the pics while the car isnt moving and there arent alot of outside lights, like the street lights and such.

Well we have given suggestions and asked you to explain more but seems like you dont like our answers. SO yeah it is f'ed up go spend a couple of hundred dollars to get it fixed it is your choice. Do you ahve any other problmes with the car besides the lighting. Is it hard to start, does it stall and then have to jumped off, do the headlights go dim the longer you ahve been driving it at night? All of these would lead us to think there is something wrong with teh electrical system, but you have not said anything about htose so we are assuming that is not the problem. We are telling you what we thinkit is based on what we know which for me being in Tennessee and you in SOCal is sorta hard to do.Unless you ahve someone right there that has had the same experience this is the best we can do. SO you can give us more feedback and then maybe we can come up with some other ideas. It's like calling your doctor and telling him something wrong and wanting him to diagnose you over the phone. We are

I undestand, but i am telling you guys the problem, you guys complaint about the pics. The problem is the interior clock is dim when i turn on the headlights, also the navigation screen. I know its not the dim knob because it was fine yesterday and i am not that stupid to be able to notice. The Spedometer lights are bright because the knob is to the max. It started after the battery was drained and i went to autozone to have it refilled. The headlights dont go dim, its only the two i mentioned because the center car light works fine.

right...go to a garage and ask them to test your alternator. should take 3 seconds for them to tell if its not charging properly, which i assume it isnt since you say something about a dead battery....

Is your navi bright when the car is off and powered only by the battery?

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.

yup, its only dark when i turn on headlights. IOts as if the headlight are taking too much power but all other lights work fine, such as the interior lights its just clock and navi.

Yes i believe its going to be the alternator..

My navigation inverts at night. In the day the map color is light and bright white and the roads are black... then at night it inverts and the map is black and the roads are white.

Looks perfectly normal to me. Maybe you disconnected your battery and the nav reset to default settings?
