9006 bulbs don't quite fit

I just did the 9006 conversion on my Gen III thanks to info I found here, but it appears that the bulbs do not "bayonet" in like the 9005 bulbs. I used Sylvania Silverstars. Has anyone else come across this problem and found a solution? thanks.

you need to grid down the little tabs a little. and you want to go from 9006 (low) to 9005 (high)

do you mean the tabs inside? if so, I did that to get the bulbs to fit. maybe you mean the exterior tabs. if so, should I just grind the edges down a bit on the nibs that fit into the lens?

thanks

I was under the impression, correct me if I'm wrong, that the conversion was not 9006 to 9005, but you would be modding the 9005 bulbs to fit into the 9006 harness for a brighter light (more wattage)...

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.

I got a question. I did that conversion like three weeks ago and it was great but mine SILVERSTARS have lost that "xenon" color over time and now they are yellow like regular halogen bulbs and they were pure white when I bought them and paid $40 . In my other Camry I have a PIAA super white for almost two years and they never lost the color.

Yeah, it's 9006 to 9005, check the FAQ. How hard is it to open up the headlamps for access to the bulbs? I want to do this mod pretty bad, I don't know if my bulbs have ever been changed. Today I went to pep boys and they had a pack of silverstar 9005s for $40, is that a good price? Also, on a side note, I checked that machine that tells you what bulbs to buy, just for kicks...it said 99 camrys have 9003 bulbs, what's up with that?

You know what? I filed the tabs a tad with my nail file. No lie. It worked great, and the bulbs were still a pain to get in there, but it was worth a little elbow grease. Revlon has cheap ones you can get in a drugstore.

Nice! I never thought about that. I was going to go out and buy a rasp, but I think my mom has some cheap ebony boards laying around...By the way, what's all this nonsense about having to reseal headlights once you change the bulbs? Do you really have to do that?

you only need to reseal if you open the housein for clearing the light or cleaning. from the looks of your cam your is the normal gen 4 which had the 9003 bulb. the gen 4.5 had the 9005/6. and from what i can tell yes you can put in the 4.5 housing but you need to splice some wires.

and lauren nice to see how your using some name brand tools on your car

Yeah it's a gen4. I thought you couldn't put in the gen4.5 housing, because it doesn't fit. I guess I will need to reseal it then, because I want to take it apart and clean it, there's a bit of condensation and it's just looking pretty yellow overall. So anyway, can I still put 9005s in?

it's the 9005 to 9006 because 9005 would be your highs.....without that cap at the top like the 9006.

meaning....wanting to use an uncovered(9005) bulb to the harness in 9006

Do I use the same oven method to open gen4 lights? and what would I use to seal the light back?

yes same method on open the gen 4 to close it back is some silicone sealent in a tube from home depot.

9003 and 9005 are 2 way diffrent bulbs.

on the left is the 9005, middle is 9003(h4), and the right is 9006

you can say WAY diffrent bulbs they wount even fit in the big ass hole. your best bet is the silver stars. or i hear good things about the cool blues and xtra vision.

Well, doesn't that suck. But at least I don't have to change out two sets of bulbs now.
