Gen5 Weird problem with stock muffler.

I have been thinking about removing the stock muffler and replacing it with a flowmaster or magnaflow. I believe the imput is 2.25", i recently noticed that the pipe is connected to the muffler with a two bolt connector:

The mufflers i saw on the internet do not come like this and the rest of the pipe is soldered into the muffler. What would i need to do to get a muffler connected.
