I Have a 99 camry 4cyl on its second motor with 70,000 and the seocnd motor is dying. The great people at toyota tell me it would be 4k for a rebuild, but I obviously could get the motor for under a grand and drop it in myself. The question I have is, is there any preformance motors that I oculd drop in with little modification, or a way I oculd build my motor up? My budget is about 3 grand and my current motoir they say its either a bearing problems or a valve problem but they arent sure.

To answer your question about engine swaps yes there are swaps taht can be done. I would recommend, and I am sure I will not be the only on, using the search function located in the upper left corner of this page. Just do a search for gen 4 engine swap and read away.
