is there anyone who has a short ram intake in their camry that is losing power cuz my friend with his higher mileage car is having more power and his car is totally stock..... does anyone noe about this problem??
I think it has improved response in low end, but at the same time I feel like I've lost a lot of passing power. Appropriately, now I get less in town mileage and more highway.
Well, the theory between intake setups is as follows. A CAI set-up takes advantage of "cold air" from running (speeding). Its utility is not seen in the low-end of the tachometer because the motor has to pull harder to get it's air needs. SRIs are wonderful for low-end torque because they decrease the length of pipe thus reducing the length of travel for the air flow. Now, as you get up to speed, the hot air that's trapped under the hood is being ingested by the motor. As you know cool air=more power and warm air = less power. I hope I made sense. I'm sure the other TN kids will give better explanations but this is the gist of it.
Give or take power, it's not anything noticeable. I can 100% tell you with confidence that you will NEVER feel the difference an Intake alone is making. You may think you are, but you never will. After friction loss, you get none of it at the ground. Without other mods, an intake is a waste of money.

Ditto.
You couldn't get an accurate dyno between most intakes on different days.
They just don't make a power change.

You hurt my feelings! My butt dyno says your wrong! I'm still putting on my CAI! :P Can you recommend a set of cams for my 5SFE?
as far as I know, nobody makes cams for a 5sfe cuz they got that stupid spider gear on them, or some crap like that.... but if anyone else knows differently PLEASE correct me, cuz i want a set of nasty cams for my 5sfe...
haha, i would be the one beating pkchi's camry. what i think is that his air intake is absolute crap when it comes to acceleration and low end torque. however, it's noticable that he has higher end power when it comes to cruising on highways. i do wonder if his new exhaust will make him loose backpressure and result in even more power lost? pkchi, i think you need a real cold air box, not the home depot plastic one you're using now...
Has anyone used the "CryO2" system? It uses either N2O or CO2 to chill the intake charge. While it's costly and probably not worth the cost for the very little horsepower gain to a stock motor, it's still pretty innovative for something like a turbo/supercharged app or a more agressive NA.

Custom made ones (since that's all you can get for your car), Mild ones at that. You won't want all out racing cams.
As for putting an exhaust on a 4-cyl before building the engine at all, your just asking for power loss. I have said it many times before, and I will say it again.... Exhaust is the LAST thing that should be done on a car. Your exhaust should be made to match your engines build. How can that be done if you do your exhaust first? It can't! So wait on the exhaust till your done building your car.

Cryo is used mainly to chill intercoolers. It won't do a whole lot to a N/A engine, and even less to a stock one. I'd put that money into something more substancial, like higher compression pistons, or forged internals.
