Well I used my saturday of the holiday weekend to paint quite a few pieces of my interior, including the steering column cover, driver and passenger under dash, some panels near the drivers and passenger's feet, the center console and a few other pieces... its really subtle, some of you guys might not care for it much, but Im not one for flashy interior colors. I went the same route as Ufoz, going from the dark purplish-brown to black.
Anyway, Im hoping to eventually do the entire interior. I have a couple questions- first the A and B pillar covers- How do I remove those? The hanes manual doesnt list those pieces, are they just held in by clips? also, the main dash piece... that cannot be removed correct? if not, How should I go about painting that?
This is a very long process and I expect it to take probably the rest of the summer. Ill have pics up of what Ive completed so far in a couple hours. Thanks in advance and thanks to Allen for outlining how to go about painting the interior.
cool, another project for this weekend, thanks allen... what about the main huge dash piece? I dont imagine theres any good way to paint that very easily...
i painted my dash while it was in the car, but I'm really not too happy with how it turned out. I'm thinking of just getting one from the junkyard for $50 and seeing how hard it would be to rewrap it with new black vinyle.
what about the passenger side airbag? wouldnt it be tough to get the dash out with that, or is it just a cover over there?
I guess there would be tons of screws huh When I did the other pieces I taped all of the screws to a piece of paper and wrote down where they came from... still wound up with one extra though... it seems to be inevitable when I work on this car

Just do what I do. Keep a box with all the extra parts. I got a handful of screws, some plastic things I think went to the seats and covered a seat belt, struts, springs, and more bolts.
anyways, seems like you have also been busy, keep it up

thanks red phoenix, I have been trying to keep busy with the car- it keeps raining here though. I washed the car FIVE TIMES last week alone! You guys should see the blister on my index finger from spray painting... oh man. I just threw this baby on a couple nights ago, wasnt worth its own thread though:
Im going to try to get to the A and B pillar covers and third brake light this weekend. Ill keep everyone posted on how it goes and how the paint holds up.
haha cross your fingers with me allen... i hope to be rolling on bronze by the end of august
does that airbag on the passenger side come out with the rest of the dash? Any precautions I need to take? Ill probably pull it and paint it the week before I go off to school. How hard is it to get out and in once the 5000 screws are out?
your interior is so hot Allen... I love that ebrake handle.
OK, new problem guys- I got the A pillars off no problem, along with the lower trim for the back seats. Now Im trying to do the C pillar covers- the ones that the seatbelt runs through. The lower bolt for both of the rear seatbelts is really stubborn- like It broke loose and I loosened it some but its just gotten harder and harder to turn, to the point that I cant turn it. Any advice for loosening these bolts and getting those C pillar covers off? thanks, Ill play around more tomorrow after work.
Ill work on it after work. I get to leave early today ... because of the dentist I just thought it weird because they broke loose fine and were coming out, but then with every crank they seemed to be getting tighter until I couldnt turn them anymore. And yes I was turning to the left
I realized last night that my steering wheel and carpeting are going to look pretty weird if I paint all of the interior panels black
I have no idea how any mortal man could break those upper seatbelt bolts loose- thats rediculous! Im not even sure an impact gun could do it... I tried WD40 and a breaker bar but they will not budge whatsoever. argh Im getting frustrated
