ASB LIGHT... Rear Speed Sensor

I did several searches and could not find anything...

So I replaced my struts (2000 V6 Camry) and the ABS light came on. Read the code and its the rear LEFT speed sensor. At first I thought I had ripped the connection wire or something, took at look at it and everything was fine. the plastic outer cover over the wire is still intack. I really don't want to replace the darn thing because it cost $185.00 just parts alone. Can someone please give input on repairing it .

Also, the code being rear LEFT.. it would be the driverside rear wheel right?

I had the same problem when my struts were changed. ABS sensor needs to be replaced. Try NAPA. Yes, left is driver's side.

So you HAD to replace your sensor. How much and was it a difficult job? Did the light automatically turned off?

Yes I had to - I don't believe they are 'repairable' in any way. I did not do it myself. The repair shop somehow screwed it up when replacing my struts. I don't think it is difficult from what they told me - perhaps get a repair manual? They replaced it with a NAPA part which was cheaper than the Toyota part. You could try for the Toyota part online or by phone - try discounttoyotaparts.com or toyotaparts4u.com - there are others also. BTW I have come across a couple others in forums that have had the same problem when their struts were replaced so it does seem to be something that can easily happen. Good Luck!

ptran,

what kind of device do you have to read the code? Where can I get one? My ABS light is on - checked the brake fluid and the ABS fuse - all is fine. So, I'm guessing it is the darn sensor(s).

Thanks.
