Well, a good time ago I started asking questions about engines/body kits/rims etc... that go on Gen 3 Camrys.
I'm starting work on my Camry within the next week by taking the motor out and replacing it with a 3s-gte. I forgot to ask this one question real quick.
How long will an Automatic transmission last using the 3s-gte?
I'm going to buy the 3s-gte with the money I have now but I need to know if the transmission will last long enough for me to drive it to save up for the manual, so I can decide to sell my truck or not.
Once it gets started I'll start posting pictures of how it is going. I will have a Super Camry! ^_^
the tranny should last u... btw u are using the auto tranny?? or u got a stick for ur camry as original? cos i think the automatic transmission is pretty weak if u have one i suggest getting it replaced at the same time it would save u time and money to do so... a good tranny to use based on "Wraith"'s write up is a the solara's V6 5spd tranny but u gotta do a custom mounting on the camry to make it work...
good luck let us know how it goes....
humpty
also go check out the mr2 boards they may have something there... they share our engine and tranny for the 5sfe a good few to ask...
There's no such thing as an automatic 3s-gte. There was no 3s-gte automatic tranny ever produce nor are their any automatic tranny's that can be mated to the 3s-gte. Hope that helps.

Sorry , buddy aint no way you gonna be able to run any 3S-GTE with a automatic...
Damn, I thought I read a post on this board that said that an automatic would work with a 3s-gte, but it would tear it apart within a couple of weeks or so because it wasn't made to handle that.
Other than that though, I'm going to order the engine and the mounts soon so I'll try to post pictures of the transplant or something. If the engine will definately not work at all with the transmission, I'm going to have to put the transplant on hold for a little while until I can find a transmission to put in it.
The only thing that is going to be complicated is making the automatic into a manual. A whole bunch of welding/cutting and the like has to be done from what I am told.
I've already got most of the engine stuff worked out as far as what is going on it, when it's going on and stuff, etc...
But I've mostly worried about the body work. Since the Camry isn't really the most popular car to be fixed up, most of the parts are hard to get unless there is a group buy. And I seem to have missed out on the Clear/Red GB.
So I thought about going a little more custom than clear/red lights. I was thumbing through cars looking for lights that I thought would look good on the tail of Super Camry. I might be retarded or something, but this is what I think would look good. I would like to put some s2000 tails on the Camry. They look like they would fit the body well and they look nice to me. As far as the headlights, I think the Camry's lights look good, I just need clear corners for them etc... HID conversion, the usual neat stuff.
Something else I'm looking for, I want a ~~~FUNCTIONAL~~~ Scooped Hood. Something that looks like a Celica GT-S hood. I like how they look. So far I think I'm leaning toward the Black Widow body kit. I like how it looks with the headlights and such.
So far I'm completely clueless about the interior, I'm not really worried about it yet. Same with the sound system.
And no matter how much you say it looks stupid and the like, I want a spoiler. So what it isn't that functional, I like the style, kill me ^_^
If anyone else has any ideas on the tail light conversion, please respond. I need criticism!
i dunno how well they would fit the rest of the body but i always loved the last gen supra taillights and am curious how they would look on a camry..i think it would be a show stopper but i sure some think different
i could have sworn there is an auto 3sgte. isnt the caldina equipped with both auto and manual? also for the supra taillights i have a pic. let me see if i can up load it.
If you don't know how to drive stick, you shouldn't have a 3SGTE swap.
Who said I didn't know how to drive a stick? =P I want a manual because I like manuals better than automatics.
And, as for my opinion on the supra lights, that picture looks kind of odd. But that's just me

I'm sorry, but that Camry looks like it got the shit kicked out of it with an ugly stick.

LOL... bro , you should be worried more about engine, motor mounts, harness, ecu, axles, hubs, radiator hoses, etc... Instead of worrying about a freaking body kit... You can deal with that later...
Please to all newbies... I know everyone has a dream but this swap isnt cheap and isnt easy ... Please!!! I take it as a disrespect to all who has done and gone thru this swap for someone who has even attempted this swap to say " Its Easy "...
Please do you research... And you can run the 3S-GTE with an automatic but it would require you to invest into a full stand alone engine management or get your hands on a very very very rare Caldina ecu, which could possibly work. But, I'm not sure of this... So, whatever you do , good luck...
