Engine temperature

hello, I have a 1995 Camry LE. would like to know if someone can tell me if it is normal for my engine temperature to be close to the cold side on the gauge whenever I drive my car. This happens even when the weather is hot outside. Seems like the faster i drive the gauge shows my engine gets colder. Please let me know what is happening. do i waste more fuel this way?

The needle should stay in the middle or at least close to it. I would say that your problem is probably a sticky thermostat. The car is designed to be most efficient, when at it's optimal temp. In theory, it should be less efficient if the engine is constantly running cooler.

when your engine is running colder it burns more fuel because it's trying to warm up and your fast idel is still active.

your t-stat is bad put a pice of carbord to cover half your radiator and you should see it say about normal then. newer t-stats are made to fail in the open pos to keep the engine from over heating.

True, the engine has to run at a design temperature which is the middle of your temp gage. Up or down means abnormal. And must be dealt with. It could be a sticking gage.

Mine ran like that too but because the radiator was new. As soon as the radiator got a little older and sprang a couple of leaks the temp went to the middle and if i'm not careful it goes more to the H
