I am thinking of buying an optima or rockford fosgate battery for my car cause my battery is getting old. Anyone have any experience with these???
Also i went to the local Advanced Auto Parts Store and they said optima does not make a yellow top dry cell for my car ??WTF?? i thought batteries were all universal.
He recommended a different kind of Optima that was about 100$ less than the $179 optima yellow top. Anyone know were i might could find one for cheap.
What the guy told you was a half-truth. You will need to extend/replace the power and ground wires to reach the top terminals on the yellow top. Or if you get the side mounted (GM style), you can probably just get the adapting terminals. It is not like a simple swap with the OEM terminals. I just reran all the power and ground cables to my yellow top. Also, make sure you get a red cover plate which also doubles as an elevating plate to seat the battery higher.
Ok thanks i get it now. I think i might go with the rockford fosgate, though. The local quality sound shop i deal with SoundsGreat said they have 950 i think cranking amps and are a little bit smaller in size than the optima. I might just get them to install it if they have to change around the wires.
Does the battery help alot with your system, i assume you have one??
Actually, I haven't built up my system yet. I have all the electronics, minus the amp(s) and sub(s). I'm trying to build the backbone first...slowly...then add all the rest eventually.
Don't get fooled by the CCA numbers too much as those are just for cranking your car when cold. Look for the amp-hour numbers as that will determine how long your battery will last when the car is off. Though the yellow top has only 750 CCA, but the play time is pretty good.
heh, my old 1979 Mercedes Benz 300CD had a 1000+ cranking amp battery (i think around 1200) I think my little gas powered Camry uses less than half of that :p
red top are better for starter battery. optima are better for a audio system but i heard story about not able to start well in cold weather. i never had a single problem with my yellow top. works like a champ

I miss my camry....................
Well today i bought and installed the Rockford Fosgate Deep Cycle Battery. I chose it cause it is a little smaller in size than the yellow top and performs just the same + i needed a new battery anyway.
Edit by the way, smokey i like the black widow i wish i had one
Optima has an orange top same as red top but reverse terminal for toyotas
that is what I come accross in another forum. A better battery is vital for the quality of your sound system.
