Fuel octance on 1MZ-FE

I have been reading that "Info on 96 camry sticky post and was wondering if swiching to 91 octane would really improve engine performance and fuel economy? has anyone noticed any difference by making the change?

i more so notice the engine ran smoother, and a lil more performace gain. but when you do it pull the EFI fuse and make the computer readjust for the new fuel

I run regualr in mine and seem to have no problems at all. I never hear any pinging or knocking taht you would associate with low octane gas being run when it shouldnt. NOw my 02 Sienna is another story, if I run regular in taht it sounds like the Sprint commercial with the pin dropping times 1000.

IMO you shouldnt run anything lower than 91 in a 1mz-fe. Sure the car can run on lower octane due to the ecu pulling timing, but its a 10.5 to 1 compression motor and will always work more efficiently with higher octane fuels.

What is the EFI fuse and whereis it located? is it neccecary to take it out or something?

I also belive that using lower octane fuel wiil meke the throttle body and air intake plenum fill up with carbon. that was exactly how mine was when i opened it to change the plugs, so i clened it and the accelerator feels alittle easier to push.

Some cars work well w/ it while others can't.

I've heard many ppl say their cars can't handle like 87 octane but 91 is very good. I've also heard of ppl who said 91 wasn't that good. So you'll prolly just wanna try it out and see which one your engine likes the most.

try 91 ocatane and you won't be disappointed....no difference between 91 and 94 octane tho.

and the efi fuse is in the fuse box in your engine bay- if I remember correctly, it's a small 15amp (well, either way, it's blue)

How long should you keep the EFI fuse off before replacing it ?

Also: would I need to do this step after cleaning the throttle Body ?

^ like, 30sec or so is all you really need if not less

but you really don't need to....the ecu can adjust pretty well on itself
