Just intstalled front speakers, but they make noise,, help!

Ok peeps. I just installed an amp to my front highs, the ones in the door. They sound great with the car off, but when i turn the car on they make this really loud annoying sound. It sounds like the engine, if i give it gas it makes more sound, if i down shift it makes the same noise. Its hard to explain. does anyone know what to do...??? thanx

I think that it's cuz the signal line that you used to connect to your amp is getting too much distortion....might be because of a power cable or something......I don't quite remember why (read it a long time ago while researching for my system)

but it's something along those lines...distortion...somebody else will be able to elaborate on this for you to what the exact cause is.... :-?

Did you run the power and signal cables side by side or something?

It does sound like..

distortion. Yes, make sure the power and signal cables aren't touching. Also, try to reroute them as far apart from signal cables and any wires because they emit magnetic field. Otherwise, perhaps investing into some low-noise cables for your wiring to/from your amp, that's if you haven't.

what you are hearing is alternator noise. It has nothing to do with what cables you have or what wire was ran next to what. It is caused by a ground loop, which is a difference in ground potential from one part of the car to another. Couple of solutions... best bet is to do this first:

1) make the ground wire on your amp as short as possible to metal chassis of the car.
2) don't use the stock ground wire for your head unit. Instead, run that wire to the closest chassis ground as well.

Doing those 2 should clear up the noise.

Ok well ill try both those soloutions, yes my power and signal are touching, and are routed from the same side. My grounds are very short BUT all three amps' grounds are going to the same ground screw(or whatever its called). The wired thing about it is that it does it only when the car is on, when its off, it sound perfectly fine.

listen to mach_y - he did a kick-arse install on his car

and besides... hes right about the ground wire. gotta be short.

as long as the actual WIRE from the power and signal cables aint touchin it shouldnt do anything like that.

Ok, when your cd player was installed, most likely a wiring harness was used that plugs directly into your factory wiring. One of those wires (the black one) is the ground wire. Currently I'll bet that black wire is connected to a wire in your wire harness. So, you need to pull out your deck, and the black wire coming out of the back of the CD player needs to be cut. Then extend that wire from the back of the CD player to the closest metal chassis you can find (the same way you grounded your amps to the closest metal chassis). Make sure you scrape away any paint or oxidation on the metal so you get good contact. This way you ensure both your amps and your cd player are BOTH grounded directly to the metal chassis of the car.

for the engine noise coming through your speakers, there is some kind of relay kit you can buy and connects to the wires somewhere which is supposed to eliminate the engine noise. in australia the brand is Jaycar, surely there is something similar in the states. go to a car audio shop and get them to have a look.

those devices are called "ground loop eliminators", and all they do is connect the ground wire of one device to the other. The same result that can be done by grounding your HU directly to chassis the same way your amps are.

Hey i tried that with the CD player ground today, it didnt work, i tried shortenign all my groounds, they didnt work either. I juts noticed that only the front right speaker makes that noise. There are not actual wires touching each other. I hooked that front speaker to the original CD player output, and it stopped making that noise. Anyways thanx a lot for the info. Im gonna try an audio store....

disconnect the right RCA from the HU. Does it still make noise?

flip the left and right RCA cables... does the left now make the noise? if so, then you have a bad RCA cable.
