2nd Generation Suspension is in.

Just recieved my new struts and springs yesterday. As with virtually everyone else that has suspension on their 2nd gen camrys, I went with the KYB GR-2 stuts, and Intrax springs. I have a strut tower bar on the way, and have ordered the whiteline sway bars for front and rear. I am in calgary and they are being shipped from Australlia, so i have some time to kill before they get in . I am installing them on Tuesday, one week from today. Anyone that has installed these have any tricks or tips for me?

Kurt

It's pretty much straight forward.

Will do for sure. I think I may start a thread of the project. The project being whole car, not just the suspension.

^ Spring and strut install on a gen 3, but read it anyways.

The brake lines on a gen 2 are attached differently to the strut. You can go about it 2 ways.

1. Remove the cam clip (big gold colored clip) holding the brake line to the strut.

Use a hacksaw blade to saw through the mount, bend it with some pliers, and remove the brake line.

2. Unbolt the brake line from the strut. You'll have to bleed the brakes afterwards.

For the rear struts, you don't need to remove the rear deck. Remove the bottom portion of the seat and the side bolsters.

In each corner under the rear deck is a triangular shaped mount. Unbolt these mounts and you can access the bolts for the struts.

2nd Generation

where did you order the strut tower bar from? what about the whiteline front and rear sway bars? prices? i'm trying to figure out if i should save up and drop $2k on my dad's 97 jetta III instead of modding my gen2. his jetta gets wayy better fuel efficiency (however 95whp), and it's a 5-speed. i'm in college, so i'm trying to save...but i wanna do my car up all nice. at least with suspension and all that. tranny needs some work too. didnt mean to hi-jack this thread...but anyways...prices?

2nd Generation

a little confusion here...

alright, i found the rear sway bar for the gen2 @ ctmotorsport.

however, i cant find a front sway bar. checked whiteline's website and it doesnt do me much good.

the kyb gr-2's are about $50 a piece, correct? so...that's around $200 for shocks, and i've seen the intrax for around $100/set. i would love to drop my car, although i don't wanna go slithering sideways over speedbumps. eh, take the good with the bad i suppose.

how much of an improvement over a 16 year old stock suspension will this setup turn out? lol.

$50/ea for KYB GR-2s sounds about right. I paid $60/ea for Tokicos.

Where are you seeing the Intrax springs for $100? Are they new or used? They go for around $200 brand new.

I can take speedbumps no problem with intrax and GR2 and my car is only 4.5 inches from ground.

I dont think they make front sway bars, you can find a front STRUT bar.

I heard about someone one the TN forums getting a set for a bill, but I don't recall them being new--or used for that matter lol. well...$400 all around, PLUS front and rear sway and tower strut...hmm...that ends up costing a pretty penny. maybe i should take my car to a derby hahaha. has anyone ever done that? it sounds crazy.

I sold a set of Intrax springs & Tokico struts awhile ago to someone on this forum. Complete with stock strut housings (serviceable), etc...

Maybe thats what your talking about.
