3rd Generation knock sensor help

I need some help. I'm not excatly sure what i part i really need. My check engine light went on. i scanned it, and it was a knock sensor thing. I forgot the code. Today i did my oil change and since my car was on the jacks and what not. i took a peek at the back of my block. Right pass the halfshaft on the passenger side, i saw what looks to be my knock sensor. It was a pretty big thing with a plastic cover over the wires. i saw 1 strand of wire thats still connected to the what i assume is the sensor. So if i order i new knock sensor will it come with the wire. Can i order the new wire ? whats the parts name for it. How hard is it to swap out wires.

My honest bet is that i need to swap wires. Since it looks like the knock sensor isn't really damage. But the connecting wire is. Since i had it on a jack i had limited access and view of where it connects to. If someone can get me pictures i can be a lot more detailed about what excatly is wrong.

i was reading thru some stuff and a thought just came to mind. I was reading about disconnecting the wire for the connector and rewiring it up that way. Not to sure on how that works tho.

I wonder if they just sell the wiring harness for that sensor in particular. Oh yea and where would the other end of the connector lead me to.

Hey man from what you are saying it sounds like you are looking at an O2 sensor

My Haynes manual says that only the v6 models have a knock sensor and it's located under the intake manifold. Do you have a 4cly engine or one of the v6 models? if you can scan that code again give us the code # so i can look it up on the book for you, if you want to?

you can do a diagnostics test by jumpin the TE1 and E1 terminals on the diagnostics plug that is located under the drivers side dash do that while you have they ignition swich on the ON posistion then read the number of flashes you count, the numbers will be separated. Im sure that you know this already.

mines is a 4 banger. its stated in my sig. the code might be somewhere in the lines of 228 or something in that area.

If you laying down on the ground with your car jacked up. Its on the passanger side. Look at the driveshaft and look past that. to the block. Its right on the block. I'm pretty sure what i'm looking at is a knock sensor. Given the fact that it was pretty tight clearance and lack of flash light i'm pretty sure it was a knock sensor. 02 sensors can be seen from my engine bay easily, i highly doubt that one.

Every car SHOULD have a knock sensor. And i'm 100% my banger has one because of the CEL.

EDIT/// i just did a quick skim thru a CEL code database. from all the knock sensor codes i looked up. It looks to be P0325. The other ones just don't seem fimliar to me.

yup, the 4banger has one knock sensor while the v6s have 2

no idea where the ones on the 4bangers are tho, but as v6le_camry said, the v6 ones are under the intake manifold area, so maybe it's the same for you guys?

and I haven't had a chance to deal with my knock sensor problems yet, but I don't think there actually is a harness for the knock sensors- I'm under the impression that it's just a couple of wires that go straight to hte knock sensor, and it shouldn't really be a big plastic thing

and you also really can't tell if there's something wrong with a knock sensor just by looking at it. You very well may have blown the knock sensor- no idea until you take it out

yes i understand that i need to put the sensor to a volt/amp meter. But thats the least of my worries for now. I mean that part is most likely a simple task to remove and install. Just a costly one because i checked prices and they are like 130$ usd. But i'm way more considered about the wire. When i slightly pulled the wire from the sensor itslef i just saw one wire and on top of that it feels like its more then 1/2 gone. Its not secure at all or anything like that. Thats what scares me the most.

What i plan to do tomorrow is take a look at my dad's 94 and compare it to my 96. I hate doing tasks under the car.
