Gen5 automatic shiftknob conversion anyone?

yo I was wondering if anyone knows how to convert the automatic shiftknob (take it off) and install a custom knob with a boot. If anyone has a write up please let me know, thanks!

So, hold on.. you'd keep your automatic trans but you want to put the boot on it? Search on the net, I seen that conversion here and there...

I was wondering the same thing, I think the gen4 and gen5 shifters are relatively the same thing, I tried searching but couldn't find anything. I don't want a big boot though, just something that would fit pretty closely and cover up the ugly shaft that the shifter's mounted on.

Its maad easy to do. Just unscrew the stock knob then cut the shifter to make it shorter with a pipe cutter and put a boot over it.

The switch is for my overdrive
This is what I did with mine. It would have looked much better if I had use a pipe cutter to cut it down a bit. For some strange reason everyoen thought it was a manual tranny. All I did for mine was take off the ol shifter take of the shift plate and put the boot over that then put the new shifter on. You can always search though, that's what I did before I did mine.

Well in my case i wasn't trying to pose as a manual, i only put on the boot because 1. my shift plate was messed up and 2. I didn't like the look of the bare shaft metal showing cuz i didn't have access to a pipe cutter to cut it down so that the shifter would be lower.

The Reason it's done is for show, and it looks a lot cleaner than the stock auto shiftknob with the shaft showing and the P - R - N - D - 2 - L plate showing as well. It's not posing, it's simply making it look nicer.

Oh yeah, and dont hate on that guys mod cuz you think it should be for manual trannys only. I could crack a lot of jokes on your car too
