I like Toyota because I do not have to fix it from week to week or month to month. My friend bought one of not-toyota-car got problem within 11 months he had to take his car to the dealer for 7 times and went to work by bus and later called his dealer to pick it up from his driveway because it did not want to start. What a hell, what a product! I took him to Toyota dealer and got one now 15 years and still running.
I bought a toyota because my family has owned a few and man, do they last long
Really no problems, just typical stuff that can be fixed, nothing major
My dad's avalon 1995 is still running
Only thing we've changed are the oil and boot and flushed coolant
still on original timing belt and spark plugs and all that
Hard to believe, going 180k and still going
And my bro in law owns an old 4 runner, close to 200k, never really had to fix anything
and also owns 2 1990 camrys which are still going, only changed oils on those cars
Thats so true. Most people think Toyota/Honda are the only good cars because of their ignorance. There are six Accords and one Camry on my street. None of the owners know a thing about cars. They are all repeat buyers (excluding the Camry owner). They think all American cars will fall apart and have problems starting. They are automotive retarded. We never took care of our GMC Sierra. We rarely even changed the oil and it still ran good as new. Nothing was falling apart on it. American vehicles can match Japanese vehicles in reliability.
Well its not really "ignorance" its more fact. Honda's and Toyota's have some of the highest residual values of any cars. In fact, when you look at all major cars (American on Foreign) and look at how their value's depreciate...most Japanese automakers (i.e. Nissan, Toyota, Honda) are at the top of the list for vehicles which retain their value the longest. Add to that I know several people who have owned American made cars and they are alway complaining about their car needing repairs or being out of commission as such. I dont know if Mazda is American-made or not but they have some of the crappiest cars on the market. Add to that, Toyota and honda know how to make attractive, beautiful looking cars. Fords and Chevys and Pontiacs are generally ugly. I live in Maryland and this is Toyota country over here. Its like every three out of five people own a Toyota out here...especially the Camry. How many car manufacturers can you name has over 5 best-selling cars? Around here I see many many Camry's, Carolla's, Prius', Avalon's, Solara's, 4-runners, Sequioa's...you name it. Everyone who has been in my car, whether they like Toyota's or not, have always said almost immediately, "Wow" or "Roomy" or "This is a really nice car". Toyota's look good on the outside and even better on the inside. You get into an American made car and its nothing special. Pretty boring to be honest. That's just my two cents.
when i was about to purchase my camry i couldnt help but notice that i could buy a much newer malibu/taurus/intrepid with less miles for the same money. however, after driving all of the above, including an accord, i chose the camry.
also, anyone who reads consumer reports will also tell you that the camry and accord are generally more reliable than most of its competitors.
the stats have proved that toyotas and hondas are WAY more reliable than anything else. one had the top four manufacturers as acura, lexus, toyota, and honda. the guy who wrote that article is a moron. yeah, i like my camry because i'm stupid, not because it was well engineered...
not to say that all imports are awesome. mercedes benz, for example, had one of the worst reliability ratings. the americans companies are starting to catch up, but they've still got a lot to learn.

1992 Toyota Camry 5 Speed - 5S-FE....totally stock
Quite the opposite, for it is difficult even for professional reviewers, much less typical consumers, to find any glaring flaws in either car (except for those looking for excitement, which do not represent the typical midsize sedan buyer, and will thus not be discussed further here).
I guess I'm not the typical midsize sedan buyer. That whole article is laughable really. Perhaps it was referring to new Camrys only, but there are several flaws in my car that would keep me from buying another one. As far as domestics go, I think the current lot has pretty much gone to ####. My mom had a '92 Lumina, and I swear that was one of the most reliable cars I've ever been in. But if I recall correctly, that was back when it was the import companies who were trying to play catch-up, and not vice versa.
^ IMO the mid-90's american cars are some of the worst. That was before the American companies were really feeling the squeeze from the japanese companies and after they stopped caring about quality since they (at the time at least) dominated the market. My stepdad had a 96 lumina that cost him more in repairs than its original purchase price.
Someone said something about Mazda's reliability well...Ford owns Mazda.
I've come to the realization that American Companies cannot make anything that doesn't have a V-8 under the hood. They make crappy 4 and 6 cylinder cars but their V-8's last forever.
However looking at current reliability ratings ( i last looked probably a few months ago) but while toyota and honda still lead the pack by a good margin, the american companies are doing MUCH better in terms of reliability these days.

That's exactly how I felt. Apparently the ENTIRE Camry fourm bought the Camry because of loyalty and just because they were ignorant and too lazy to do research. WTF? I got my Camry because it's a Toyota which means that broke-ass people, such as myself, don't have to worry too much about havin' money on hand for problems because there will be few. As well, it's gonna last a while so I don't have to worry about it dying anytime soon. Toyotas are die-hard, like it or not. That's what I bought.... Apparently he hasn't read JD Power and Associates surveys. What about Consumer Report Magazine? We are always recommended yet those crap-ass "American" cars are not. But, I'm stupid for buying a Camry.
About Mercedes-Benz, it's embarassing to see that the owner is doing worse than the owned. As you know, Chrysler's quality is above and beyond that of Mercedes-Benz. BMW has a 50/50 reliability and is a under the average reliabilty rating (JD Power and Associates Vehicle Dependabilty Survey '05).
Mazda is 28% owned by Ford Motor Co (unless I'm mistaken). Their reliabilty is coming up but their sales have soared because of it. They have really nice lookin' cars that I wouldn't mind owning. (Minus RX-8 and their minivans)
So, it shows that it's not about import, it's about reliabilty and dependabilty. Now that's moving you forward, Toyota (I love that motto!)
RX-8 looks nice. RX-7 too. My dad said the mazda engine was bad and its value doesn't long when we were deciding to get my car. We got my Camry.....LUCKILY..i love my car. i really didn't get into cars until i got my car. now i know so much.

Exactly. The writer of that article should look at the FACTS before making accusations of ignorance. Data, stats, and facts prove that honda and toyota are much more reliable than american cars. It's not just loyalty/ignorance, but it is a fact. As my boss says, you can't argue with data!
