USA RH Axle - how do you remove?

I'm working on a '92 Camry with 4 cylinder and automatic. I want to remove the RH (passenger) axle and am having a bugger of a time. I have the hub loose but can't remove the axle from the carrier. I have removed the big internal snap ring and the bolt that comes into the carrier from the bottom. It doesn't want to pry out and I have beat the heck out of it with a block of walnut and the 5# hammer. Then I still have to remove the other half from the transaxle.

There has to be an easier way!

Yes, there is. As Fredk already mentioned, remove the bracket (rear engine mount) from the block and take the whole thing out. If you live in an area like me (in the northeast) where they use salt and sand, you will not be able to separate them on the bench. You will need to go to a machine shop.

I brought mine to one and they needed to use a 60-ton press to get it free.

Don't remove the bracket!! It is not necessary to remove the drive axle.

I had to deal with this problem last year with my Gen4 Camry too. It took me 2 weeks to get it out the transmission casing.

The solution??
1. jack up the car as high as possible
2. spread the bearing race with penatrading oil and let it sit over night
3. find a long brass punch(18" ~ 24"). Hold the brass punch against center bearing race on the transmission side.
4. have your buddy use 4 lb slege hammer and just hit the brassh punch as hard as possible.

both you and your buddy would have to be on your back on the the floor, unless the punch is long enogh to reach the driver side of the fender. Then of course, the person handling the hammer may be able to work the hammer much easily by standing up right.

If I remember it correctly, the punch needs to go above the exhaust pipe, not under. Also, this procedure will damage the center bearing race beyond repair. However, most reman axle comes with a new bearing anyway. so you are ok there.

...or just remove the 4 bolts that hold the bracket to the block and go to the machine shop. Nothing gets ruined.
