Gen5 uh oh... strange engine noise

I have a '02 Camry LE I4. some weird sounds r coming from my engine. I thought it was from the fan at first but i checked it out, the radiator fan wasn't even spinning. It sounds like a fan scraping something every 1/2 sec, but it seems like it's from those pulley things on the left of the engine. Anyone have an idea about this? Thanks

Well, when was the last time you changed those belts? You say it sounds like the fan hitting something? Something like a metal to metal sound? Does the sound come when the engine is cold? hot? Does the sound get louder when you crank your AC up? Check on all that and write back....

I thught that don't make any more cars with mechanical fans any more, is't your fan electrical?

I was thinking that you might have a rockerarm/lifter taping noise that usually makes that noise. Have you changed your oil lately?

changed it every 3K miles. Dunno wat kinda fan it is. Just know it uses a fan belt and it was wearing out or something making strange squeaking/scratching sound.

There is almost nothing nowadas that has an actual "fan belt". Now they are really jsut accessory belts. Even on RWD cars most of the fans are electric. IT is very possible for the belt to make noise and 43k miles is not to early to have to replace belts.

Does it sound like this? You'll have to turn your speakers up a little to hear it over the engine. On my car, the squeaking goes away after I've driven for a while, or if it's a hot day it won't squeak at all.
