Disc brake conversion just finished...one question
I just finished converting my rear drums to disc brakes on my '96 5S=FTE. They work great,,,but I got one question. If I am moving (like more than 15 MPH) and I engage the emergency brake, when the shoes first make contact, there is a loud click.
I wasn't sure what to make of it, so I got in the wife's V6 and tried the same thing. Sure enough, hers does it too...and I haven't modified her car
it is probably going to be normal for that car as the parking brake is not meant to be used as an emergency brake per se. It is probably just the shoes rotating in the drum. My 94 V6 LE does that also. It could also be that they are trying to adjust like you would normally get on a drum brake setup.

PLEASE DO NOT GET RID OF THE OLD TN AS WE KNOW IT.
Sorry no pictures. I was too busy swearing at the junkyard that sold me much of the setup. The ebrake cables were not right...the knuckles were wrong.
Also, I couldn't get the knuckle free from my car, so I had to swap things piece by piece. My plan was to swap the entire setup by removing the knuckle with everyhting attached and installing the new stuff the same way. But everything was too rusted together. Even my Ingersall Rand impact wrench could not free it.
I am working on the wiring harness for the eManage right now. That will be installed within the next couple of days. I will have a USB port in the passnger trim panel to plug my laptop into.

I didn't think they adjusted like the drum brakes. But if they really do, then it makes sense. I backed the adjuster out all the way, so there is plenty of adjusting that could happen. And I'm sure the ebrakes on my wife's car have never been adjusted.
I wonder if it's bad to engage it while the car is moving then. Picturing the shoes rotating doesn't make me feel good.
my rear doesnt click -- although my car came with the handbrake and rear discs
dunno if this helps.

never get clicks from my handbrake -- if you have 2 cars that get it, maybe its just normal?
