4th Generation It's a ghost

Well, I've come to the conclusion that my car has a ghost. Last year I had my struts and strut mounts replace but still had that clunking nosie. Well, today I went back to have ti looked at again. They tore though my suspension to try to find the problem but to luck everything is fine. So I've now come to the conclusion that my car has a ghost. If any one has any other idea what it might be let me know.

check your rear sway bar bushings. when they wear out and dry up they will allow the rear sway bar to rattle around. at least thats whats going on on my gen3

This is a common problem with gen4 camrys...mine does it too. The design of the strut mount is very poor, apparently. Did they examine every piece of the suspension thoroughly?

i have the exact same clunking noise. you're probably missing a plate (w/the bearing) that goes under the strut mounting plates. as far as i know on my 2000 camry, there are a total of 3 plates that go under the strut bar (if you have any).

i haven't got my plates installed due to problems (couldn't put them in due to spring compression issues). but when i get the plates in this weekend i'll let you know if the clunking noise is gone or not.

Are you talking about the radial ball bearing in your strut mount? Does this clunking occur only when you turn your wheel? Just wondering what plate you're refering to.

EXACTLY! The clunking noise occurs a lot when i turn the wheel. Another kind of noise occurs when i go over some bumps on the road sometimes, where it sounds like something is loose. Hopefully the bearing plate will fix both noises.

Maybe the clunking will go away after some time for the struts/springs to get used to being used a lot?

Ah yes clunk in the trunk revisited....

I had this problem on my solara. Big bumps would make a dull clunk originating from the rear passenger strut. Ended up being the muffler (apexi WS) bouncing up and hitting the frame. Real easy to fix - haven't heard the clunk since.

Alright. The clunking when you turn the wheel is caused by a bad strut bearing. Same thing happened to me and when I opened the strut mount up the bearing was busted and all the balls were falling out. Replace the bearing and it will go away. Mine was passenger's side and the driver's side was fine.

For the other clunking, if all your bolts are torqued down properly you may be out of luck.
