Just wanted opinions, especially 88LE's seeing he has installed one, on using the MSD 6AL Ignition system. I'm thinking it'll be my next upgrade, and just wanted to know if it was worth it in any way. I have seen it in action on a hot 351C, but not sure if it would be as good on my engine.

Anyways, any input appreciated.

I had one on my camry for a while, all it did was eat spark plugs, and increase fuel milage a bit. Not really useful unless you are doing some fuel upgrades, or something else that requires stregnthing your ignition system.

edit:
they are good if you have a manual transmission though, that way you can get one with a rev limiter, save yourself from a really bad mistake if you over rev while doing something stupid.

Ahh ic, so you wouldn't really notice any performance or responsivness increase?? Even if I used good Iridium spark plugs? I've heard that the MSD creates a "hotter" and more powerful burn, and thus give you that little bit more, on a stock car. No idea though. I wouldn't buy it for the sake of a rev limiter i dnt think..not sure.

Youll need some msd plug wires (heli coil i think) too or youll have problems. I have a 6AL, not sure what its done for me though, lol.

Ahh..so you noticed no increase at all?? Hardly seems worth it so far! lol.

Don't expect any miracle gains from it. The only thing I noticed is that the engine revs and pickups smoother, but that could of been in my head.

I bought it mainly because of the turbo. Wanted to make sure I'd have sufficient spark.

And the other reason is so that I can get rid of the internal coil. Their known to go bad on gen 2s.

I used a OEM Toyota dist. cap + wire set and didn't have any problems.
